Any 1655 Expert here? Trying to get my grail watch but wanted check before wiring

Here is the watch I am looking at.

Coming from a reputable shop but the dial and case seems a little off compares to the others I've seen. IE the print on dial, font etc.

Thanks you all

Please name the reputable shop. As you seem to suspect, the dial is fake. The coronet and text of “t swiss t” are the same as long time often seen fakes.

I would steer well clear… case, hands, dial all aftermarket.

Engraving is suspicious, at a minimum.

I wonder what "reputable" means in this context.

The shop has been in business for over 30 years, but when I compared all the dial variations of 1655, I didn't see any of them that has such badly printed dial (almost looked like poorly written in some areas). Although the movement seems genuine but the case and dial was a red flag, so I wanted to check with you all.

Go with a reputable seller for your grail watch.

Could be a problem, given that the OP considered the seller to be reputable.

I feel like we have seen this watch before, in this section - The dial looks familiar.

Need to try and find that thread but I am sure that thread discussed a supposedly reputable dealer.

It's here Dom alongside this post....if any others I'd be interested.

https://www.rolexforums.com/showthread.php?t=933326

Really need ALL posters to name a seller/put link to it if watch is deemed dubious. This forum is here to protect other members / buyers, as well as Original Posters please.

Why is this such a big secret, another shady "reputable" dealer selling a fake? Unless this dealer is not knowledgeable in watches whatsoever. Regardless, we should still know who this is.

Not trying to protect anyone, I did put a deposit on the watch, I would like to express to the dealer that I would not proceed with the watch and get my money back before I put up the link. I hope you all understand.

To be honest, that watch looks pretty cool...
But in Philadelphia, it's worth fifty, bucks!

I guess worst case scenario, I can ask my credit card company to do a chargeback if anything happens.

Can anyone share with me about the info on the other post on the forum about this same watch? I tried to click on that link but looks like it is gone.

I am a rookie on the vintage watches, oldest piece being a S serial 75090 that I bought from the original owner. But other than, I have limited knowledges on them. That's why I reached out to you all when I had doubts about this one. 1655 is one of my grail watches, the other being a pretty much 116519 Meteorite dial (pretty much impossible at the current going rate).

If it is just a refinished dial, I am ok with it, as long as it has the genuine part number on the back. But RSC stated if the Coronet had been touched( refinished I think) as well as if the major components are modified in anyway, ie case, dial etc they would not work on it.

I was going to try my luck if the case, engraving and the dial are original and the dial is genuine but refinished. Seems like the verdict here is that the watch is not good except for the movement and bracelet (at least I didn't see anyone mentioning them)

Bracelet looks ok, but it's a C&I, so the value is limited,

Why are you even thinking about spending $17K on a watch with so many issues, and potentially fake parts? Plus, when it comes time for you to sell it, it will be a nightmare.

As Dan mentioned the bracelet looks OK, get your deposit back OP and don’t even think about looking at that other 1655 on this website…

Have a look at the inverted triangle at 12, the distance between the tip and the coronet seems too narrow. They almost touch each other, whereas in other 1655s, there's more space. Do a search on 1973 1655s on chrono24 and put the images next to each other.

The dial is fake. Not refinished. Just like the other 1655 they are trying to sucker someone into buying for almost $50k. Dealer should be named Hubris.
