Vintage is always a natural partner with a nato.

And a new Ball Archangel. First thing it was put on their optional “NATO.”

Thinking about starting a 21mm NATO strap company. Who wants to invest?

My Seiko AD ordered in all the latest NATO straps from Seiko for me. I asked them to pull this one out of the case to see how it looked and was immediately sold!

Thanks Dan! The boys keep an eye on everything I post.

This was another one of the new Seiko NATO's that my AD ordered in form me. One of my friends there took one look at that strap and pulled this Seiko 5 off the shelf to put it on.

All five straps:

President Pierce,
I humbly apply for citizenship in the Nylon Nation. I have only been eligible for about 2 hours, but so far I'm enjoying the NATO option much more than I expected. I recieved this Speedmaster from my wife for our anniversary 4 days ago, but I bought the strap a few months ago waiting for the watch to put on it. I often get the cart before the horse!

Welcome aboard to our newest recruit. I wouldn't call it the cart before the horse, as much as being prepared.

And happy anniversary! Your wife is a keeper!

Good evening everyone and being relatively new to the watch game, I have some questions about those NATOs.. But hey, take no offense please

I own one NATO and it is the worst wearing experience : the watch sits too high, I feel some abrasive friction on my wrist and it is so long that it needs to be folded. It looks very cheap, event being a black piece.

My questions are :
1. Are they different types of NATO, some higher class that would feel better on the wrist ?
2. Why are those things so long? Ok It might have been for military purposes when wearing thz watch on a big jacket or whatever but I find it very useless nowdays?
3. I read here and there recommendations not to set a NATO of my seamaster as it would slowly degrade the back of it. Is this true ?

Sorry if those answers have always been given previously and thank you for the answers! I am looking forward to learning to maybe one day be part of the big NATO lovers family

There are NATO (and ZULU) straps that are made of thinner or thicker nylon. There are also some made of "seatbelt" material and some of semi-elastic material. Each feels different on the wrist.

Also, it depends on whether the strap is a 3-ring model or a 5-ring model. And if it's a 5-ring model, there are at least two different methods of attaching the strap, one of which involves a double layer of the strap under the watch which raises it more than the other method. This matter was previously discussed and pictured in this thread.

If your strap is too long, and it bothers you, you can use the edge of an appropriately sized coin as a guide and trim the long end of your strap and (if it's nylon) fuse the cut end with a flame.

I wore a 5-ring ZULU on my Omega Seamaster for several years and never noticed anything amiss on or about the back of the watch, nor did the dealer who took it in trade for a Breitling, which now sports a 5-ring ZULU.

Sorry I missed your inquiry.

jD has provided solid advice.

May I also suggest the uber comfortable Bonetto Cinturini rubber nato. They are thin so you watch won't sit too high, come in a variety of colors & hardware finishes, and as I said at the beginning, are amazingly comfortable.

Also, very high quality at a reasonable price. You can trim any excess using a coin to outline, razor to cut, and some fine sandpaper to finish. Plus the hardware allows you to choose the standard NATO style or single pass.

Wearing one today on my BB GMT.
