Thoughts on IWC F.A. Jones Portuguese?

So I'm considering buying one of these, in stainless steel, to bring a more dressy watch into the collection. I've also been looking at a couple of Glashutte Original, and wanted to get people's thoughts on the Jones. It's a manual wind, which I am ok with, but information is pretty sparse. I realize it's a limited edition, with 3000 being made in the steel case, but does anyone here have any first hand knowledge on the piece? I'm assuming this is not an in house movement? How much time does it gain or loose over a given period?

That model has IWC 98290 in-house movement and it is a good watch. GO produces a range of models, not sure what model you compare to this IWC. Can't go wrong in either direction, so good luck!

Thanks vman. There are a couple of GOs that have my eye; the silver dial Senator Observer and the Senator Panorama being the main two, as I’m drawn to light colored dials and blue hands.

It's a very nice piece, very classy, but rather large for a dress watch.

Thanks again. Looking like I might pull the trigger on this one, as I let two GOs slip through my fingers in the past.

Just spoke with the seller of this watch, and was told that it came without box or papers. With that in mind, and assuming that the watch is in excellent condition, what would you say is a fair price?

Whoa...Whoa.. Just hold on to your horses there...! No B+P ? Just Great! Wunderbar!

✓No Box No original warranty card,No warranty booklet, No Instructions manual No polishing cloth .Minus 500 bucks !
✓You'll be denied of a very nice FA Jones Booklet called " The Man who created a Legend " .Minus another 500 bucks
✓ It's easier for me to remember the watch because I have a nickname. I call it the Portuguese Dr Indiana Jones ! If Dr Jones's watch is not fitted with its original Black Alligator strap? or was it a crocodile Strap?I can't remember. Then hellooo...we have a serious issue here !
✓ Never assume anything until the watch is inspected. If Dr Jones's watch + Original strap are flawless in absolutely super minty condition, then it's worth at least 60-70% retail
✓ Did the seller use a Watch Timing device or Timegrapher to regulate the watch and results of accuracy printed on paper ? If he didn't, Hell Yeah ! Deduct another 200 bucks!
✓ When was the watch last serviced? Never ?Minus another 500 bucks !

So how much is Your SS IWC Portuguese F A Jones worth in today's market without the clothes and housing ? I'll grab it for US$4000-4200 .Nothing more... You have to remember there are lots of other competitive dressy watches on the market and it's a Cut Throat World out there !

My numbers are not gonna work ? Well Sir, then I suggest you turn your attention to the Glashutte Original Senator Sixties Panorama Date with the Tiki Dial

Ok. I'm outta here ! This is a community service message and I'm Meganfox17 signing off

Ok, I've started finding myself more drawn towards a GO Senator Panorama Date that I've found. It's in good shape, has box and papers and is available at a better price. Probably going this way, as it's a bit more fitting as a dress watch.

Look, the box and papers may matter a lot if you have a limited edition watch that you want to resell sometime in the future. If you want to get a keeper, the process is simple: Get the lowest price possible and then take the watch to service. As a part of the service, the watch will go through authentication and in theory you'll get back a watch that is as good as it was brand new.

IWC just release a limited edition collection and there is a hand-wound Portugieser there. Check it out: https://www.hodinkee.com/articles/iw...on-introducing. I'd take that over GO and I am a big GO fan.
