Out of state purchase

Hello all!!
Newbie here in Rolex watch Game!!!
I am trying to purchase a watch from NY AD and it needs to shipped out of state.
It was my understanding that if the watch is shipped out of state I am not required to pay taxes on it. My Ad says only if watch goes to Florida or Delaware.
Is that true?
Thank you.

Except for states that don't have sales tax, you're technically required to pay taxes when it comes to tax time if the seller doesn't collect at the time of purchase.

You are always supposed to pay sales tax for your state.

In the past the Dealer was not obligated to collect tax for your state, and you were expected to self-report and pay them yourself.

The law was changed a couple of years ago and now Dealers are expected to collect sales tax on shipped or Internet purchases.

Now most companies are collecting the sales tax for the state you live in if the watch is shipped there based upon the Supreme Court decision upholding your state's right to have this done by the selling state.

New York was slow to implement the Wayfair Law. Even up to now there are still some vendors that will tell customers to ship it out of state to avoid being taxed (like the AD you spoke to), they’re not supposed to but I guess it’s a selling point for them.

You can also have it sent to a Delaware / Oregon address (or where there is no state tax), and then it gets shipped to you. Another loophole if you don't want to pay taxes.

Yet, technically illegal. Not that I wouldn't do this if I had the chance

I have mine shipped to Texas, but i have business in Texas. It’s not 100% on the up and up, but, you aren’t really going to prison over it.
