Really depends on how much cash you got back. Having said that, the LVc is a beauty and you’ll always get your money back.

I don't quite understand all the people bashing the OP for "trading in gold for SS."
If he were to trade in his gold sub for an SS 5711 or Royal Oak Jumbo, would they be making the same harsh comments? Or am I missing something here? |

Since money isn't a problem then no trades. Keep the gold sub and add the LV. Always room in the watch box for one more watch.

Price is subjective ... If you love it ... nothing else matters to be honest ...
Do I think you could have got a better deal? Definitely ... But forecasting the near term and long term price movements of these watches is pure speculation at this point ... So I don't think you should spend your time thinking about this deal ... I think you should just enjoy the watch (if you love it) ... or try to reverse the deal / resell it quick if you don't |

That’s apples to oranges. That has a different value entirely as it’s a different watch with different internals. OP traded the exact same watch just in a different material/color, literally nothing else different.

If you were going to sell the gold anyway, not sure I would have done it, this is much to do about nothing, if you are happy. Enjoy the Hulk and wear it in good health.

Meaning you think that a move higher in gold may indicate that economy or the stock market crashed? |

Quite honestly - why worry about it.
At worst you’re down a few k, at best you’ve got a pristine example of a popular modern watch. Chuck it in a safe for 20 years and you may well have the last laugh. You can re-buy a gold sub anytime should you want to.

I'd say a SS sub is more versatile than a gold one. So that's a good thing for me.
As for the price, well the dealer is happy , he's happy. I'd say that's a win. Sent from my MI PAD 4 PLUS using Tapatalk |

Worst time to buy a Hulk IMHO, I would have waited for price to settle down, but that's me, whatever makes you happy.

The LB is an ugly, in-yer-face watch which you can replace anytime. The Hulk is a beauty on the other hand. Who cares what metal it's made of? Buy what you like to look at. |

So if someone trades in TT Daytona for an SS Daytona, is that poor judgment as well? Like you said, exact same watch, just different material/color.

IMO yes that is crazy and I’d never do that trade. But I’d never pay more than 10% over retail, so my opinion may differ over somebody else’s who would pay Grey pricing. I’m even more biased by the fact that I think the TT Daytona white dial is the best looking Daytona out of the lot

All depends on how much cash you got in the deal. Was the watch you received really never worn? In the end if you are satisfied thats' all that counts. Wear it in good health!

lots of comments were based on the claim that OP traded a YG sub for the HULK, sounds crazy but it wasn't exactly the case here.
There appears two deals happening at the same time: 21k to buy a BNIB Hulk ~25k YG Sub trade in value The price for the Hulk, though crazily high historically, is actually the current low end market price, and many buyers also paying that right now. For the trade in, private sell can probably fetch a few thousand more, however not everyone has the time or guts to deal with all the hassles and risks. Also the OP is dealing with a PP AD with the potential to get very desirable Rolex/PP pieces in the future. If that can indeed happen, then a few thousand $ "loss" of this deal will be considered as a totally negligible small investment. The current Hulk price might be crazy, but the price of the 5-dight Kermit NOS or flat 4 is even higher so who knows. But if look at the big picture in OP's case, the deals did not look as crazy as some people think. |

OP should have also taken into account gold’s meteoric rise affecting Rolex PM pricing (as shown in this thread: https://www.rolexforums.com/showthread.php?t=762610). It makes his trade even nuttier than already mentioned.
