I'm eyeing a Tudor Quartz Oysterdate, but something doesn't check out. Thoughts?

Hey all,

I've always loved the rich blue dials on some neo-vintage Tudors, so I got excited when I saw a Prince Quartz 84100 for sale, as there is no Tudor Quartz in my collection today.

Some things look good to me, but others less so, though I'm inexperienced and may just not know what I should be looking at or am putting too much stock in something where Tudor QC didn't excel when this was produced.

Photos of the watch attached.
Specific concerns: Case back engraving looks a little sloppy, back of case S# and ref# engravings look light (though could be from a polishing or just the angle of the photos), and the movement engravings look a little sloppy. Also, the +/- adjustment seems to be reversed from what I assumed to gen.

That said, dial looks stunning. Is this a franken watch, all real, all fake? For comparison, here is another identical ref with photos including the movement.

Would really appreciate your thoughts and expertise! Are my suspicions justified? Or am I paranoid and this is good?

Thanks!

I appreciate your chiming in!

Here is a side-by-side of mine (top photos) and the other (bottom photos). There are clear differences between the engravings on the movement and also on the caseback. It seems such discrepancies in like models wouldn't happen today, so how did they happen back when this was manufactured? Are these stamped, engraved, something else?

Also, I understand how a lack of consistent QC would result in different looking engravings, but what about the movement difference? It looks like the + and - adjustments are reversed on mine. That would require whatever control that handles to be reversed too, which is more than an engraving difference, I'd think a manufacturing difference. Is that common?

Thanks!

Thanks! I just posted above with another follow-up, perhaps more about Tudor manufacturing history. Do you have any insight or knowledge on that?

Very common for 50-90s for Tudors to see the modifications of various calibres to be slightly different in appearance and case/caseback engravings also to be slightly different too.
This watch, like the 9140/0 quartz from earlier decade, is also just not worth the fakers going to town on... as unlike 7928/7016/9411 etc demand was low and it was only a £500 - 800 watch just a half decade ago and the flat/square case shape and the fixed (male) centre-pronged middle link difficult to fake on the cheap.

This makes sense! This watch is from 1992, what did Tudor production and QC look like then? I would have assumed more consistent engraving in the 90s. Was this by hand or machine?

Was this the same movement as the Rolex Oysterquartz?

I'm enjoying it. Horse sense tells me this niche piece wouldn't be a major target for fakers.

Gorgeous OysterQuartz! I missed out on a beautiful one about a year ago listed in Canada, wish I would've pulled the trigger. Such a great daily wearer, always ready when you are.

I've always got my quartz ready when nothing else has the right time! Current quartzes are a Grand Seiko GMT and Aqua Terra, and this will join the club as the smaller, sleeker quartz guy!
