Rolex prices on the rise?

Hi all, I just read an interesting classified ad that stated in 2011 all rolex prices will begin to increase. Im wondering if this is just speculation or is he confusing the fact that a 2011 watch will cost more than a 2010 watch?

Regards,
D-series

ps heres the link if anyone is interested in reading this poor mans desperation

edit: i emailed the poster of the ad and asked for a source of that bit of information

I seriously doubt they will raise them 6 months after just having increased the prices, at least here in the US.

You said they increased the prices 6 months ago? Was there some kinda warning or maybe an article that outlines the price increases or is it just a known fluctuation the market watches for, like the way bread rises from 1.50 to 3.00

Just do a forum search and you'll find links to the new US prices. I'd say they will hold for at least a year or two, depending on how the world economy does and how exchange rates develops for Rolex's major markets (US dollar, Euro, Yen, and increasingly the Yuan).

The problem is the extremely weak US $ compared to the Swiss Franc, it has recently dropped below parity (1$=0.96 SF).

I still remember around 1970, 1 US$ = 4.2 SF!!!

So, you can see how weak the Dollar has been or how strong the Swiss Franc.

This is a major problem for Rolex, because all of their cost are in SF.
I can imagine that they will try to constantly increase prices in foreign currencies.

Regards
Tom

And in January everyone in the UK will see a 2.5% increase in the VAT!!! I hope Rolex don't do a price hike along with this but it will only be a matter of time I guess before they do.

Rolex just raised prices as someone above posted. I would be surprised to see another hike so quickly. Who knows though what the future holds with Rolex--that is why I focus on buying the past-vintage that is!! Unfortunately-there the market always seems to be on the rise!!

Rise or not most will keep buying. The GMT II c was the best selling watch in this country this year...even after the price hike....

Sounds like salesman talk to me. Buy now before the next price increase!!! They just increased them here in the US, I doubt they'll go up or up by much next year.

Let's put it this way: They certainly aren't going to lower prices, so it's always easy to say prices are going up. They will, just how long before they do?

Other than the fact it is a classified on craigslist, take it for what it's worth. Sales 101. Will prices go up, yes. When? Only the Rolex execs know the answer.

Ok im beginning to get a feel for what they mean by this, but how does a price hike in the newer models of rolex's make the ones we posses more valuable? or does it just make them depreciate less?

Also, are these prices comparisons based on dealers market or the price stipulated by manufacturer? The VAT increase would lead me to believe that a fee is tacked on at each stop it makes before it finally arrives to the end purchaser

Price increase - Twice a year has always been the norm for ROLEX.
Perhaps beginning 2011 they'll upgrade it to 3 to 4 times a year.
And its because they Can!

The last increase in the US was in the second or third week of September, so it has been about three months.

No one really knows at this point when, but it is a matter of when and not if, it history is any guide.

I loved that little video, by the way.

Very heartwarming, I thought.

I think it's too soon, but what can I do. I think this is what spurs up demand as people who are on the fence on certain Rolex models will rush out to buy before the price hike.

You should read the comments for that video on YouTube.

You're dealing with a teenager.

I'd let that one go, if it was me.

I think a good rule of thumb for increases is 12-18 months. Not always true, but for me a good outline.

I'm sorry to be blunt but this is the second thread that stinks.

You know, the price of Rolex increase annually, there are hundreds if not thousands of post addressing/discussing this issue. For the thread starter to ask about whether a price increase will happen- about a month and a half after this years' is just a little nuts to me...

Historically, Rolex increases prices at or above 6%, 3x rate of inflation... This helps protect the secondary market and product integrity through pricing.

I mean, we can look around at almost ever consumer item and make the case that things will increase in cost in absolute terms. Relative terms, is a more complicated discussion... a thread worthy discussion about relative performance of Rolex to say the markets...

Ahhhh!!!!
