OP 39 vs Speedmaster

I dont know if this question has been asked. But in terms of prices both of these watches go for similar amounts of money on the used market. I know these two are completely different watches. But if you had $4500 to spend on a used watch which one would you buy?

I have both. The OP gets much more wrist time.

I'd save a little more money and buy an Explorer, no date sub, or sea-dweller.

Speedmaster is the way to go IMO. Permanent member of the collection whereas I think Oyster Perpetual is only a temporary one that eventually gets replaced/upgraded by something else along the way DJ/DD/etc.

Plus you should be able to find a nice Speedmaster for less than 4500.

OP39. Reason, I prefer Rolex over Omega. Although, the Speedmaster would be the one Omega I would consider.

You should be able to get the speedy for a lot less than 4500. I’d pay no more than 35-3600 for one.

Prefer the speedy over Op39, have it on a leather strap and it’s so versatile and iconic.

Depends on what else is in your collection. Is this an everyday watch, or for nights/ weekends? The watch I wear to work is an OP34 with green dial. I love it. Flies under the radar, very legible, super clean design, and absolutely bullet proof.

On the used market, you should be able to find a speedmaster at @ $3000. I’d rather have a speedmaster than an OP. I’d rather have a Explorer than a speedmaster.

Different price points and completely different watches. Speedy vs Daytona, DJ41 vs AT, or even Sub vs speedy on the merits of iconic status I get. But price is the only alignment factor here.

I do like OP and eh with Speedy. So I’d pick OP.

What’re your criteria? Is it looks, durability, cost retention, etc etc?

Personally I’d get the Speedmaster, though the Sapphire sandwich version for durability.

If this will be your one and only good watch, I’d go with the OP: better water resistance, sapphire crystal, automatic and better bracelet. If you have several watches, I’d go with the Speedy Pro as I just think it’s the more interesting watch and can be worn on almost any strap.

Very subjective based on you. What do you have in your collection? What do you need?

I have both, a hesalite speedy and the white OP. For the Speedmaster, I love how versatile it is. I can throw it on the bracelet one day, then throw on a NATO or leather strap the next. It is a really easy to read chronograph and a pleasure to use and wind daily.

For the OP, it can be a one watch collection. I wouldn't throw it on a strap (no hate to those that have) but it is really easy to read, simple, classic, and light on the wrist. I dislike the lack of the EZ link, but if you get it sized correctly it will be fine.

Speedy if you can wear 42mm everyday.

OP is you need a smaller watch that can do any occasion, including swimming.

Speedmaster is too large and lack the waterproofing that I need. OP is perfect.

I've never particularly liked the Speedy, so OP 39. I have the blue one, and it gets worn a lot.

OP is definitely more versatile versus a Speedmaster & I don't personally know anyone that has a legitimate use for a chronometer. (That being said, my work watch/beater is an EcoDrive chrono that I sometimes play with.) Why don't you "split the difference," so-to-speak, and look at the Omega Seamaster 300 Master Co-Axial 41mm (black/gilt) 233.30.41.21.01.001 ? I really like that piece.

I own the blue and grape OP. Love them. Really eye catching. So OP for me. The white OP seems to be the easiest to read and most popular of the group since it came out. What this thread needs is pics!

Rolex is miles ahead of Omega, buy the OP39. You can’t beat saying it’s a Rolex, when you say it’s an omega people are like what’s that?

Tried the Speedy. Did not click at all.

Well, this is a fascinating question and not that easy to respond to either. The Omega Speedmaster range has quite literally dozens of watches to choose from and so without knowing which one you had in mind, I'm struggling to respond objectively. Likewise, the OP comes in a range of dial options aswell as date and no date options. Could you be a little more specific please?
