Is the OP39 going to be a future classic?

It's interesting to think about. I don't think it will skyrocket in value like the Hulk, but (talking about the White and Black) these were a short run for Rolex having been released in 2018 and ending in 2020. Now I know that not every short run Rolex means high value, but considering the things they have going for it, I can see them having an audience that will pay a "premium". At the very least you probably wont loose money.

If someone is looking for a watch in the Rolex family, the White does have a few things going for it:

• 39mm case at ~11mm thin
• No date
• White dial
• Simple and clean design (aka not white Milgauss & no double batons at 3,6,9)

Now the Black is a little different since the Explorer is the same size plus has a few features that are upgrades from the OP39 (easylink)

I agree. The rhodium, blue, and red grape would have been perfect if it had all lumed batons.

I guess it depends on your definition of a “classic,” but it certainly has a classic look. And IMO the white dial OP39/36 was one of the coolest watches in the Rolex catalog, and I really regret not getting one when I had the chance.

this is a thinly veiled question of, "will it go up in market price?".

my answer is, probably will. newly launched models usually enjoy a brief period of hype. anyone adept enough can ride the wave and reap the rewards.

I doubt it
It’s a fantastic watch
But a lot of fantastic watches didn’t end up being classic, some extra chemistry needed for the OP39 to be a classic
That said, I really love it especially the white dial

they offered manual wind 36mm watches in the 60s and 70s, they currently sell for a 50% premium over the 34mm ones. still makes them far cheaper than any modern Rolex. I imagine they will retain value better than a 36mm or 41mm but doubt they will ever be very collectible. The way the rolex price structure is designed you shouldn't take too big of a hit, if ever though

I hope so, great size, gives the watch a modern feel without being too dressy. Has a big Datejust feel without the cyclops, easy to dress up or down. I think the OP39 value will keep climbing

I could have purchased the white OP39 many times but I never really liked it for a second watch, after my sub. If it became available today, would I buy it....nope, I just didn’t like the look of the white OP39. I don’t think it will ever be a classic.

my guess is to be classic it has to be in production for a long time. but i'd agree with baymax that it'll have a cult following. it's too excellently proportioned not to. i really can't believe why it was discontinued, but very happy that i grabbed one on september 2nd (!) ... by total coincidence. learned about the discontinuing after.
