Official service center?

Can they be trusted with vintage watches? I've been reading around quite a bit, opinions seemed mixed but leaning towards it being safe.

And follow up - if a watch has been to official service, would you trust it in the ocean? Even if decades old, and for ex Daytona?

Thanks!

Trusted?

Rolex will service any authentic watch that they have parts for. You need to let them know what you want done, or not done, if you feel that value may be affected.

I wouldn't wear a valuable vintage in the ocean, regardless of how recent the service is. The risk vs. value loss is too great, even if that risk is one in a million.

Better to go with an independent for a vintage watch service. Giovanni in SF is good for most sport models.

I wore my 1989 5513 in the water no problems.

Had my 1675/3 serviced by Phillip Ridley. It did pass the pressure test but I have no intention of swimming with it. I have a Seiko quartz dive watch for that. Some on TRF would call a $20k Rolex a beater but I am not one of them.

If my choices were leaving my $20k vintage Rolex with my gear (beach/boat/someone else/hotel) while in the ocean, or wearing it in the ocean....neither, I’ll keep my watch on my wrist, stay with the gear and an adult beverage.
