He commented on generational wealth. Big difference. Personally, I was super lucky. My folks took great care of me, and provided me with opportunities. And I’m grateful.

But as the second generation of a self-made first generation, I learned the value of hard work And yes, graduate school, and the like,is easier on the nerves when you don’t have to work 4 jobs to pay the tuition But you still have to do the work! Nobody passes the exams/ boards for you Unless we are talking about those Hollywood nutcases and their spoiled kids I respect and admire all people who strive to succeed and see many examples of those folks right here on TRF Sorry for the long winded post T |

Taking it from your context, I guess you didn’t inherit wealth. Me either. If you were a LEO and served well since 1977, you deserve a salute even if you didn’t want it. But your first assertion is inaccurate in its broadness. Lots of us worked our way into wealth. Lots of us aren’t “rich” in whatever definition you meant. Until we live in a world beset with confiscation of assets and generational wealth, more power to the ones who enjoy it. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

Nothing
I retired on Dec 1 2006.....have not worked since.....every time I feel the urge to work again i lay on the couch and watch TV till the urge goes away.
I did not know it at the time but with all my medical problems and my wife's when she was living it would have been impossible to work.....so it was all for the best. |

The support from family/ parents is the foundation for many who are successful.
This support goes beyond financial. Nepotism also plays a role in many industries too. This is why entrance criteria at some universities is ‘lower’ for non private schooled applicants as regardless of potential, it’s recognised by top educational minds that they simply cannot, on average, fulfil their potential as well as someone who has had all the opportunities possible given to them. To me this is the true ‘wealth’ which is most commonly passed down. That of education, support and the freedom of possibility. This covers far more people than the <0.1%’s who may inherit large sums of money outright. What people then choose to do with that leg-up is obviously down to them. Some are hugely successful in their own right, others quite frankly squander it. The next generation will then benefit again in turn from this and the cycle perpetuates. Social mobility also differs country to country around the world, but there is no doubt the odds are stacked against some people from day 1, for no other reason than who their parents are.
