How will they work the exchange? Return the 31, get the refund, then directly apply it to the 28?

This is what I'm wondering too. I have emailed them to clarify what the procedure is.

So no one on this site has flipped a watch just to get the newest, latest and greatest?

Lots of people seem to purchase a watch for a movement. Just look at any one of the silly Basel predictions threads and you'll lots wanting to upgrade their watch to the same model, but with a new movement.

Awesome and congratulations. I hope once settled with it you feel even prouder of your accomplishments and the hard work it took to get there. And a lesson to be learned here for sure: be super careful whenever purchasing...anything! Clear communication both ways is essential.

And please do not take what they are doing to accommodate you lightly and matter of factly. There are two sides to this story, and although I was totally on your side all the way...they definitely are bending over backwards for you. I am wondering if perhaps they received feedback from here and there that may have helped your plea. Anyway...enjoy and hope to see some happy pictures soon!

Smart move. You don't need any more unpleasant surprises. Again, please feel free to ask questions here if you're not clear on something. You'll get a lot of noise in response, but hopefully a few nuggets of wisdom come through.

Hope you don't get the 28mm, realize now it's too small after wearing the 31mm, want to return it and exchange it back to the 31mm!

good luck!

Its so frustrating when a brand (or company selling the brand) rests on its laurels.

Congrats, but keep the more modern 31mm while you still can (you will never notice the extra power reserve)!!

It depends on the model. Yachtmasters came in 29 mm (Ladies), 35 mm (mid size) and 40 mm (men’s). I believe many of the ladies’ DJ are 28 mm and Rolex also makes 31 mm and 34 mm watches.

The fact that the OP was happy to buy the watch offered is irrelevant - she was only happy at the time because she had been deceived into believing that it was the item she wanted and had asked for.

If the facts are as presented in the original post, I would advise her to:

1. Discuss the problem with the shop manager;

2. If that does not produce the desired result, contact a consumer affairs help line for advice.

The difficulty of course will be in providing proof of the discussion that took place, but that is purely a matter of evidence; the principle at issue is clear.

Now I’m curious to see side by side wrist shots of the 28 vs the 31.

Well done for getting what you wanted.

By the way... I was happy my DJ41 was running only 3 seconds fast after 4 months from new... until I checked my wife's 5 month old DJ31. It was accurate to the second!!

So much for new movements.

Hi Lalalar, I am delighted for you that the AD would now make things right for you.

Last month I got the exact same watch for my wife. She was also set on the pink roman smooth bezel oyster bracelet 28mm combination.

Took us a while to find the watch in London. During our quest, an AD tried to convince us a 26/31mm on display was the 28mm with the latest movement - so I could relate to your experience.

All the effort was worth it - my wife couldn't be more delighted with the watch her first rolex. The dial is surprisingly versatile, and changes colour depending on different lighting.

When you get the watch and post pics, I will also share a wrist shot of my other half wearing the same watch . Until then take care and hope your AD will secure the watch for you not before long.

When the new watch comes in, make sure to inspect the warranty card, and the white hang tag, and confirm to your satisfaction that the reference number printed on both is indeed '279160', that of the SS oyster bracelet, dome-bezel Lady Datejust 28 with the 2236 movement. Also make sure that the 8-digit serial number on the inner ring (under the crystal) matches that on the warranty card and on the white hang tag. You may need to bring along a small magnifying glass to read the serial# on the inner ring. Also bring along a small cloth, metric tape measure (i.e. something soft and non-abrasive), and make sure for yourself that the dial diameter is indeed 28mm. After you get all this 'housekeeping' out of the way, it should be smooth sailing for a lifetime of carefree, satisfying, and rewarding Rolex ownership!

Regards, -Rick.

One other thing... did you not ask for a discount?

You appear to have paid full price for the DJ31 whereas 5% is a cinch at any UK AD on a DJ.
It's what Rolex "allows us to discount by" according to my AD.

Ask for it retrospectively for all the hassle, if not MORE!

I understand that the 28 mm is a new movement. Sometimes it is better if you have old movement because it is already proven. I would try out the 28 mm and compare to your 31 mm. In my opinion the 31 mm should have more value than 28 mm since people now a days would want to wear bigger size. If you go find a used watch the 28 mm would be harder to sell I would think than the 31 mm. Also most AD I encounter does not do return or exchanges maybe because the warranty card is already dated and have your name. If they accept back your watch then they will have a lost and have to sell it as used. Just my opinion. For now just try to enjoy the watch. If you really want the 28 mm try to call your CC.

Thanks for the added advice.

I shall mention the 5% discount. I was told they did not offer any discount on ss but can on models with precious metals.

If I was the AD and I bent over backwards to accommodate this situation, and the buyer then tried to negotiate an after the fact discount I'd tell them to go pound sand.

Good point. The deal is done at this point. OP is getting satisfaction, even though the dealer could have made a fight out of it. Best just to let it be.
