Patek Philippe 5196R vs Breguet Classique 7147 rose ‘grand feu’

Hello. I am looking for a dress watch, and have come down to two models. The Calatrava 5196R and the Breguet Classique 7147 grand feu in rose gold. This is a watch that i will wear with a suit and more casual wear aswell. What do you guys think? I really love them both, and it is getting really difficult to decide.

I will highly recommend the 5196 especially the rose gold that you mentioned. The dial is silvery colour and match the rose gold case very well.

The Breguet is a tuxedo watch, IMO, and wouldn't pair that well with casual clothes. For my tastes, it's too plain. If I were in the market for a tuxedo watch, I'd get a Patek 5153 or 5116. I can't help but think of the poor resale value as well, even though I'm not a flipper.

The 5196 is the most retro of the Calatrava (with the possible exception of the 5153) and the rose gold version has a grey/silver dial that makes it look vintage. While I always prefer rose gold, in this model, I like the yellow gold more because of the opaline dial. You have to decide if its worth spending that kind of money with no display back and a rather plain movement. My guess is that Patek will upgrade their manual wind offering in the very near future.

How about a 5296 (the sector dial dresses down nicely)? (Or, if you can afford it, a 5227?)

Or a Vacheron?

5196 is great. I think it can be extremely flexible with different straps to alter the 'formality' of it. The 215PS movement is tiny for the watch, but on the wrist it's so timeless and classic. I'm a big fan!

Yeah. I feel i am falling more over the 5196r. Such a classic piece. And very nice om the wrist. My friend has a 5196J That i have tried but i am more a rose gold type. Regarding the movement, yes it is small. But very sturdy and reliable. Plus i love manual wind. Would like to see an upgraded movement and maybe a see through caseback. But it is not necessary.
