9 / 10 first buyers pick the DJ. Yes its classic, it has a date, has some wow factor on the jubilee and it feels like a good choice for the money,
Then a few years down the line, you realise the explorer is the perfect steel sports watch for virtually every occasion unless you absolutely must have a date. At least I did. |

I hate to say both but both. If only one start with the DJ. A lot of bang for the buck.

If I have to choose one for all occasions then I choose the Explorer. I am dressed casually and do more active things far more often than I’m in a suit doing in a suit things. If that was reverse for me I’d choose the DJ.

These kinds of threads are hilarious. It may as well be titled “Name one of these two watches!”

If the Exp was the MkII with lumed 369 it would be an easy decision for me. The DJ41 is a lovely watch but the one thing that doesn't appeal to me are the Arabic numerals used in the chapter ring. I wish Rolex left them out and just used hash marks, like they do for the DJ36. In the end, both are great watches, but as a daily, I'd choose the Explorer.

Frankly both will work well, DJ more dressy (jubilee) and Exp more casual.

DJ for me, just a very classy piece, no contest IMHO. The Exp is nice but a touch underwhelming to me.

In general, I would agree, but not this time; The OP posted his dress criteria: "mostly dressed in business casual, while still wearing a suit and tie sometimes..." and did post very good wrist-shots of how both watches wear on him. I think it's very fair (even nice) to ask a bunch of Rolex nerds/watch nerds/WIS for an opinion if you want an outside viewpoint.
