Advice on possible purchase of a Rolex President 18038 birch wood dial

I recently went to my local Rolex repair shop in town, a little store where they mainly do watch repairs and such. They always have a hand full of Rolex watches for sale at any given time. I went in the other day and the new watch they have in really caught my eye and so did the price. It is a completely original 18038 Rolex day date "President". The icing on the cake is that the watch has the original birch dial which I have found to be pretty rare. The watch is absolutely beautiful and I must say it fits great on my wrist. The question that I have for all of you in the Rolex world is that the watch has no box or original papers, The seller is a very reputable man and he is asking $7,400 +tax. Is that price a steal, should I go pick it up now or should I be cautious?

with all DDs the band tells the tale, imo. How did it look?

The bracelet may be aftermarket at that price or is it on leather? Seems like $1000 too low.

The watch is in immaculate condition. The band is the original president 18k gold band. Most of these from the 80's have some separation and this one is probably at 90% so its great for the age.

Sounds like a smoking deal. I love that watch. For that price I would jump on it.
