How does the Aquanaut wear relative to a Rolex sports watch?

Thinking about an Aquanaut for my next watch, but am afraid it might wear too large... I can barely pull of the ceramic Sub due to my small wrists. When looking at side-by-side pics, it concerns me that the Aquanaut appears larger. Any Aquanaut owners care to chime in?

good luck if you can grab 1 tho, and then bad luck also as once you go down that route , it never ends

If you can wear a sub you def can wear a 5167. Since it’s flat it can appear large topside but it’s fine. Took this pic the other day. Larger cousin But still fine on 6.5

Light and thin. I think it would be a perfect fit.

All I can say is every time I wear my 5164 I wish it was bigger and more like a Rolex for sports use....that said I absolutely love it and it's the best GMT I've ever owned. I'd just like it to be larger.

It’s definitely thinner. Wears really comfortable though I love it. Here’s the GMT vs aquanaut and AP 15300

On my 6.75 inch wrist, 5167 wears smaller then GMT2c and SubC. Closest ceramic would be DaytonaC and wears similar though much lighter on rubber strap

I see all the comments about size of the 5167 compared to Rolex that it might too large or small or just right but no one has said that the biggest change is that Rolex are tanks and can be worn indiscriminately (or almost) , not the case with PP delicate bezels.
Just saying

I own and wear both often. If you can pull off a Submariner, you won't have any trouble pulling off an Aquanaut.

The 5167 is lighter and thinner, but the rigid rubber strap flares out on the wrist. It does not look too good on my 6.5" wrist. The bracelet is ok though as it hugs my wrist just nicely.

When comparing my 5167a to the Rolex sports models that I have, being Milgauss, GMT, Sub, Daytona, Explorer... I’d say that the closest one that wears to the aquanaut is definitely the Daytona. The 5167 is much much thinner at 8.2mm yet wears true to its size at 40mm though.

I’ll agree that once you go Patek you won’t go back to Rolex. Feels like there’s nothing strapped onto your wrist as it weighs only 80g!

The 40mm 5167 felt very large for my 6.5 inch wrists whenever I tried it on, definitely larger than my 5711. If Aquanaut in SS I would aim for the 38mm 5165 but I think asking prices went ahead of themselves (compared to the 5167). Despite having 40mm 10-4 case diameter the 5711 fits my 6.5 inch wrists ok. It has a smaller dial and crystal than the 5167 and the second wing and integrated SS bracelet may also assist in its smaller overall appearance vs the larger flat top look of the 5167. Cannot compare to Rolex as I have neither owned one nor tried one on.

I definitely enjoy both experiences, but yeah, they're light-years apart when it comes to feel.

I’m with you. And I very much appreciate both. But damn... it’s a very different wearing experience.

OP, I have two relatively small watches. 5726 and 5164.

They both have great wrist presence. But they both, imo, wear much smaller than most Rolex watches.

Daytona. YM. DJ41. Comparable.

Sub or GMT, smaller. Considerably when milimeters count. And in the watch world, they do.

I wear a sub all the time. The aquanaut wears smaller. And just my personal opinion the bracelet mechanism is garbage. It opens up on my hand all the time. The rubber straps are held into the band by ridges in the strap and a pin which is a ridiculous mechanism for a $50k watch.

Would never wear an aquanaut during any kind of activity.

That's interesting. I've never had my Aquanaut open on me when I didn't want it to.

Also, can you explain "the rubber strap is held into the band by ridges in the strap"? I am not attempting to be a jerk; I am just looking for a little clarity.

Here’s the strap to my oyster flex Daytona vs the patek. Very poorly engineered compared to a Rolex. It’s almost a joke that patek couldn’t come up with a better mechanism for a $50k watch. That’s what I meant by a pin in ridges...had no better way of explaining it. And yes my clasp pops open anytime I bump my hand the right way. So as I mentioned, I’d never wear my patek in activities I wear my sub.

Yeah this clasp mechanism is a little daft. Exactly the kind of thing a dress watch manufacturer would come up with for their sport series. Serviceable certainly, but an opportunity for improvement. It’s unfair to compare Rolex clasp tech though, the amount of thought put into that mechanism impressive.

Two totally different feels on the wrist. Aquanaut is almost imperceptible on the wrist while the Rolex Subs and GMTs are comfortable but thicker and heavier delivering way more wrist presence.

I agree with what others have said. I also have a smaller wrist and due to the way the rubber strap comes out off the lugs it wears large in my opinion. Like was mentioned previously, the 5167 wore larger on my wrist than my 5712 as that bracelet curves around a smaller wrist better.

I opted for the 5165 and it fits me perfectly. It’s maybe my favorite watch.

Yeah, same clasp on my 5167, only steel. No issues with the clasp and strap to speak of on my end. Sorry to hear you're having such bad luck.

i can be more precise: the rolex bracelet hugs the wrist and does not flare off from the lugs like the stiff aquanaut strap.

See I get that with your 5968 as in your pics it doesn't seem to fit right and sits upright if that makes sense

But as for the 5167, deffo thinner, lighter, maybe it just suits my wrist
