And to the haters? I'm sure you'll apologize in 3...2...1...

Congratulations, and thank you for taking us along on the journey with you! A very exciting story with a happy ending, and kudos to you for doing the right thing and verifying it's not stolen, etc. Wear it proudly, it's a one-in-a-million deal!

It is a great story.

In fairness to the naysayers, the odds were pretty high that the watch had an unclean status. Plenty of things that just seemed odd. Having an opinion that the watch was likely fake or stolen wasn’t necessarily unreasonable .

The chances of it being stolen were always there and a reasonable concern. The people swearing up and down it was fake with no justification were just a little upset I think.

Well, I would be lying if I said I weren’t a little jealous of your potential good fortune. Not so much so that I wished a fake or stolen upon you though. And not that you didn’t take a risk. You could have been out a grand pretty easily.

True, but there were haters. Even telling him he needs to donate to charity cause he got it at Good Will. They're like the 10 dislikes on a YouTube video of adorable puppies with 15k likes.

To add some more info to the thread on how the whole thing went down

I was watching the F1 Bahrain quali on my phone so I wasn’t really paying attention to her texts lol

Just showing her where the LEC should be

Me still being skeptical

Realized I missed a part of the convo. Just took a screenshot and added it in.

It's still hers. She not sure of her plan, though she's absolutely keeping it.

Reason some of us said that it might be fake is exactly the reason u stated in ur text with ur mom. the store said so and the ridiculously low price.

U should let her keep it looks good on her

Granted this was before I got my hands on it, opened up the caseback and checked it out with a loupe. Skepticism is one thing, but I was mainly commenting on a few people who were insisting it was fake and when asked what brought them to that conclusion they just said "I'll say no more." or kept referencing super fakes.

I would strongly suggest you PM Haywood Milton. I'm pretty sure it's fake, I'll say no more.

Lol I hear u. I thought it looked real in the pics u posted originally.

U knew once u had in ur hand, just like ur mom felt it was real in her hand. Unfortunately, most of us only had the pics.

Truly amazing story! I’d love to know how it got to the thrift store in the first place. If only watches could talk :) congratulations to you and your mom!!!

Congrats and a great story. Guess I will be going with my wife when she goes thrifting now.
With a story like this I definitely would keep this watch for life.

Something is just so off (Other than the OP's good fortune!)

The thing is, it was priced like stolen merchandise. Things like Rolex's (serialized luxury items) fine art, etc can't be sold at full value since their are a lot of restrictions on how the buyer can use them.

I'm guessing the thrift store had some doubts about where it came from. As long as they called it a fake they were in the clear, could play dumb. But a brand new, nearly perfect fake is only around $500. Not sure what a used one would be but maybe $50? If they got it for free (a legitimate donation) but were slightly freaked out about it then $1000 is exactly the price that would attract the right buyer. Would your mom have given it a second look if it was $50?

This is just one of those cases where the stars aligned and conspired to work out for everyone. The thrift store made money (albeit less than they could with but with minimal work) and the OP got a great deal thanks to a sharp eyed mom.
