Lost bezel from my 1680 sub

I'm pretty choked. Spent the day carrying my toddler around town. Somewhere along the way, my bag or kid must have caught the edge of the bezel from my sub. When I got back, the bezel was gone, mk3 insert and all. So now I'm on the hunt to replace it. I plan to get another mk3, but were the bezel assemblys the same through the years? Another thought was if whoever found it, knew how much it was worth.

I would backtrack your steps very carefully...
It’s super-doubtful that anyone found it and took it from where it fell.

The reality is that 99.99% of people would have no idea what it is, or what it’s worth.
Good luck, I’m rootin’ for you!!!

And don't forget to look between your seats in your car. Good luck man!

I was on a cruise to Cozumel last week wearing my 1675, hadn’t even left port, standing in line at the bar with my hands in my pocket, a young lady asked me for the time, looked at my watch and the bezel with a very nice insert was gone.

Spent 2 hours backtracking, looking under stairs, elevators, restaurant, etc. Wife eventually texted me to let me know she found it in my canvas duffel bag. I left the watch in the room safe for the rest of the trip.

Good luck sir.

Very sage advice. Especially in the bottom of the toddler’s car seat or around the seat buckles for belting the little on into the seat.

Good luck OP - now I feel better about the sock I couldn’t find after doing the laundry tonight.

Sorry - just trying to cheer you up.

Unfortunately it was through downtown Vancouver via transit, so it really could be anywhere at this point.

Backtracking should be done asap on the same day. If not, it will most likely be treated as trash by the cleaners ...

Still, i wish you luck to retrieve it!

Might sound crazy but speak to local council, street sweeper dept. Tell them there’s a reward or something? Bus company (lost property) etc

Worth a phone call or two if its valuable.

Bezel assemblies for 5512/5513/1680 are interchangeable...1665 are different I'm told.

Sad thing is that if someone finds it they’ll have no idea what it is. I guess that’s why there are fewer and fewer vintage parts available.

In 2002, while getting out of a taxicab in NYC, I did the same thing with my 1680 which I had bought new in 1980. There's a reason why you see so many vintage subs with later bezels and inserts. These days, at $2000 a pop to replace them, one has to be very careful.

If you are insured with Jewelers Mutual (and you should be) that would be covered under your insurance policy.

Was at a restaurant/bar some years ago wearing a 1680. Got drunk and remembered that I banged my wrist somewhere on the tables in the back. Next day, went back with a flashlight thinking it was a waste of time. BAM, within 2 minutes, I found the bezel by a table leg and I still had the flat spring.

Yrs ago my sitter took my kid for a very long walk in a stroller. She lost her favorite Croc with her favorite gibblets. I walked over 1 mile with a flashlight in the dark on a busy city street. I keep thinking if I were a Croc, where I would go. I knew that if someone found it, they would pick it up and put it on a window ledge or something. So I looked both up and down and found it sitting on a store window ledge.

Backtrack if you can and keep in mind it will roll and maybe be facing down.

Good Luck.

Lost bezel from my 1680 sub

My girlfriend gave me her wallet with cellphone in it to hold while we sat on a bench in the evening eating ice cream with her son. We got up and walked away. After 150 yards of walking she asks for her phone. I left it with her wallet on the bench. I bolted back to the bench and 3 young kids were there. I asked them if they saw it and they said yes, we tucked it under the bench in case someone came back for it. I reached into my wallet and gave them a 20 and said go get some pizza or ice cream.

If it didn’t work out I wouldn’t be alive to tell you to keep looking

This is another reason my watchmaker doesn’t encourage me to pop my bezels on and off to switch out inserts. When he services these bezels are sized and tightened within certain tolerances. With inserts now worth many thousands it’s just too risky.
