Upgrade or not?

I have a 18238 Day Date that until quite recently I thought I was completely satisfied with. I actually considered buying a DD40 before I grabbed this one 3 years ago but I felt like the 36MM just felt better than the 40MM. I also have picked up a few 6 digit cases and now have started to feel like I have the itch for the DD40.

Wondering if anyone else who made the trade could provide thoughts on their experience?

PS... I have the champagne dial now and it’s pretty difficult to read but I’d love some thoughts on which dial in the DD40 is best. I’m currently going between the white w/Romans and the black motif dials.

I had the DD2 but when the DD40 came out I did feel it was a slight upgrade and also better balanced so I can understand you wanting to move for it.

I am more of an old school vintage watch guy. To me the DD40 was too much. I had the opportunity to wear one and it was like wearing a gold brick on my wrist. It screamed LOOK AT ME! The 36mm Day Date is more refined. It can be worn without making a spectacle.

depends on your wrist size. dd40 looks out of place on smaller wrists whereas the dd36 will look elegant on almost all wrists

for YG DD, here is my opinion

DD 2 looks out of proportion from the picture
DD 40 looks great in the picture, however every time when I try it on, it always feels too big for me, and kind of "in-your-face", can't feel the elegance (big watch is still a trend so I totally understand the popularity and desire of the size 40).
as a result I still like the 36 the most.

For WG olive, or the platinum DD 40, I like them more than the 36 version.

That is a beautiful DD, timeless classic. Just depends what you want though. DD40 is a spectacular watch. Here is mine.

Upgrade or not?

Had the 18238 and it didn’t quite satisfy the itch for the DD40. I ended up flipping for the 40. I’m happier with the DD40 because it’s what I really always wanted. The 18238 can fly under the radar a bit whereas the 228238 really doesn’t at all. It definitely makes itself known on the wrist

Very nice! Tried on the champagne dial today. It's a grail, still debating 36vs40. They both look good.

Thank you. Honestly, I really liked the 36 until I bought a 116618 and a 116718.

Once I started wearing those two, the 18238 started to feel small. I also found the champagne dial really hard to read.

Really feeling good about the move. I know a lot of people don’t agree but I love love love yellow gold.

I had a couple of DDs over the years and really enjoyed them. The first was YG, the second WG which I was much happier with. Oddly enough it came with a silver dial and with silver hands and I had some problems with legibility in certain lights. I changed to a white dial and it was perfect. When the DDII came out I did not like the proportions at all. However... once the DD40 came out I kept thinking about it. I tried it on but it seemed too big. I went back a couple of times and got used to the new size. I ended up with a WG with an olive dial and it’s a really great watch. I’m very happy with it and wouldn’t go back to a 36mm. That’s just my experience, having said that a friend of mine has a 36 DD and it looks great!,
