Icon4 PAM 914 - you read it here FIRST

Today I visited the Officine Panerai building in Neuchatel and saw a beautiful model that I believe has not yet been released. Not sure if it will be limited or not... The PAM 914. Here are the specs from what I could tell.

- 44 Luminor case
- No seconds hand
- Patina lume on hour markers, sandwich black dial
- No logo
- 12, 3, 6, 9. Usual lines for the other hour indices
- “8 GIORNO” printed on the bottom part of the dial in patina color
- 1,000 units

It looked absolutely stunning!!! Basic, simple, gorgeous!!!

Wish I could’ve taken a photo of it but of course it was prohibited.

Sounds promising, thanks!

Open 6 and 9?

Did you notice if there’s a PR indicator on the back?

Intriguing ... thanks for the heads up.

I wonder if I’ll see one at their home base in a few weeks

Sorry, I only got a quick glance at it and don’t recall. But it is a stunner piece that was in QC so it will probably be released soon.

Wow thanks for the heads up...sounds really nice...

Did it have a domed sapphire? 1950 Luminor case or bettarini case?

Thanks!

Hodinkee did a three part video series for OP. If you watch what I believe was the third video you’ll see a peek of this model and some others. I’ll dig up a screenshot...stay tuned.

So, with the dropping of "Marina" + the new 900 models, the 560/562/564 have to be discontinued. Now more than ever, ecru lume is the look of Panerai.

Even though "8 GIORNO" means "8 DAYS", it somehow bothers me a little less on the dial. But, either the OP logo or nothing still would be preferable, IMHO.

I can get into that new 915...I always thought that it was weird to have basically Italian "Luminor or Radiomir and Panerai" on the dial then English 8days...

Cru, how do you know that the 560/562/564 are discontinued? Not sure I see the logical leap from what we have seen in this thread? Maybe there is information Inam missing!

I think most who know me would agree I don’t “know” much.

I’m just guessing: why would Panerai keep two identical sets of watches but for lume color and 8 days language? Also, 510/564 need to change anyway, since P (ex-OP) dropped the “Marina” designation.

Then again, keeping both sets would be very far from the oddest think Panerai has done.

True Panerai does some very odd things! How do you know that “Marina” was dropped from its models? I see from the pictures that it wasn’t used for these particular models, but do we know that it was dropped on all prospective models?

Now that I think about it more, this is a good question.

We know that Panerai in 2019 consolidated things a little bit to four families (Luminor, Due, Radiomir, Submersible), which led to the dropping of “Luminor” from the Submersibles. I thought I had read the same for “Marina”, and when I saw the new models, I took that as confirmation. But, now that you asked, I went looking for any “proof” on the Internet about dropping “Marina”, and I can’t find it (anymore?). So, who knows....

Thanks Cru—I am certainly not doubting what you are saying—I just hadn’t heard that. But TBH, I am losing track of the new models and the insider scoop as things are changing very quickly in [O]P. It’s interesting as you call it “consolidation” of the case design families—I see it as a mixed bag of consolidation and expansion. Clearly adding a Submersible line was an expansion, while collapsing both the 1940 transitional case with the 1936 Radiomir was a consolidation.

What particularly interesting about the Radiomir line to me is that JMP states that Radiomira will be used for historic homages, and the submersible line will be used for new materials and R&D. Was he also thinking about the 1940 transitional cases when he made that statement? Because clearly, there have been some very modern releases wrt to the 1940 cases. I am not sure his statement regarding Radimoira was that well thought out.

But then again, is anything that Panerai “Otherwise known as OP” does well thought out?!
