What are the best technical or practical tips you learnt on this forum or elsewhere about Rolex watches?

I’ll start with an amazing trick:

1) How to get the date with a Submariner (btw, the Submariner doesn't display the date. So don't refer it as the « Sub no-date », but instead, say Submariner Date for the one with the date window)?

Two options:

1. Simply put the triangle of the bezel on the minute corresponding to the date. The big disadvantage of this technique is that the bezel will have to make a full turn the next day (since you can't turn the bezel clockwise).

2. Subtract date of the day from 60 and turn the triangle of the bezel on the result (shown with a Tudor, but you get the idea for the Sub).

Today is 24th => 60 - 24 = 36 => put the triangle of the bezel on the minute marker 36 => you can now read the date a 12 o’clock.

It works best for the first 15 min, but you can always quickly check the date on the dial. For example, if you read 29 on the dial, you know the date is the 31st.

Hope some will enjoy this trick which I haven't read lots of time (can't remember when I read it, so I can't credit the person who found this fabulous trick...sorry for that).

I used to do that and realized a crooked bezel looks kind of odd. So just preferred to look at my phone or lower corner of my desktop for the date.

Have learnt that it is in fact safe to wear your Rolex whilst doing various activities such as skiing, sunbathing, swimming, even showering with it on. Great to know !

Deployment is when military personnel go to the bad guys' front yard & start making noise. Deployant clasps are nifty ways to open up a leather strap.

I've learned that people on the internet are either big, fat liars or have so much discretionary money that they don't know what "getting on the list" means.

Similar trick w Daytona by using the chrono second hand to tell the date. So you basically let it run a second a day.

How to use a GMT Master as a compass.......

Make sure your 24 hour hand is set to the correct time zone.

Point the hour hand in the direction of the sun whilst holding your watch flat.

The 24 hour hand will point North

How to change the Bezel insert of the 16710 without losing the damn spring.....(remove Bezel slowly starting from 6:00)

How to switch bracelets without scratching the lugs too badly.......(masking tape on the lugs)

How to unscrew bracelet links and reinsert causing minimal to no scratches.......(use correct size hollow ground screws, heat up link with hairdryer to loosen loctite. Put clear tape over screw and link side to avoid scratching if screwdriver slips stick screwdriver through the tape, unscrew, replace screw with small amount of weak purple loctite.

And all of the above stuff that I either knew before, or just learned.

Since you mention Daytona, pushers of a Daytona are apparently not made to ensure waterproof

Please folks, stop saying you can’t dive at 100m (if you ever would) and swim because the resulting pressure of water on your arm would render the seal ineffective…
One of the best arguments I ever read: we dive with underwater camera housings. These are usually rated for 40m or 50m. Guess what? I jump from platforms 2m high and the « pressure » is OK for the case, as it is for the watch.
Same story at 40m deep: the housing is subject to movements or pressure (those who experienced diving in strong current know) and the joint is fine. The (simplified) rule we usually apply is to add 1 atm every 10m (20m deep = 2 atm), so your 300m watch can survive your recreational dives without any trouble.

Help find your car in a big car park: before leaving your car align your watch perpendicular to the front of the store/mall then rotate your bezel so the arrow points to the entrance. Later when you come out of that entrance align your watch perpendicular to the building and your arrow is pointing towards your car
