Vi.66
It seems like every 4th quarter 1966 caseback stamp I have seen is VI instead of IV (including on my DJ pictured below). This is the only year I've seen it happen, too. Seems amazing that Rolex would stamp that many casebacks across all models with the wrong Roman numeral without anyone noticing. Has anyone seen a correct IV.66 rather than VI.66?

It’s a funny error to make. It’s like a building block concept of universal knowledge.

My experience is limited, but I don't recall seeing a IV.66. BTW, I have a 5513 VI.66 caseback. Freaked me out a little bit the first time I saw it. :-)

Here was someone trying to make sense out of it: https://www.watchprosite.com/rolex/r...16016.9947631/ Love the first comment which shot the speculation down - "Yes, but that raises a question. I NEVER saw a batch V. [nt] " Couple discussion on previous TRF threads similar. |

Interesting Adam. I’ll have to look through my picture archives.
I had a 1.7m serial 5513, but I don’t remember the caseback stamp. At the time of purchase Marcello Pisani thought it was a late 66 or early 67. I don’t know if that was due to the serial or the caseback stamp …. I’m curious to know now |

Who was that vintage dealer that went off the rails and then got arrested and died some years back? He had a thread going on the subject many years ago. I could dig it up if I could recall his name.
