Good attention to detail!

If this was a 1967 Sub, you are correct that it does not have the correct dial, it should be a meters first red dial. The fact it was sold new in 1975, makes it a possibility that it is indeed a 1975 sub, with the wrong number written on the certificate. In this case, the dial would be correct. The seller would need to verify the serial number on the case.

Reply from seller when asked about the dial:-

'This is how the watch came when purchase new in 1975... Back in the 70's the rolex dealer could put and dial they had in stock on the watches when they sold it..... Thanks'

funny....I saw this today on ebay and posted in the vintage section.

I gotta tell ya right now though, I have never seen a 1680 with a date lower than 2.1 mil ....and those have been red subs. Now I know the "book" says 1966, but find me something with a date earlier than 2.1 mil.

Something doesn't give with this. I can respect the fact that the dial was swapped back in the early 70's from the AD. but the 1.7 mil 1967 .....not buying it. I've been searching for a 1968 for over a year and no one has ever come up with one and I have been told a thousand times 1969 is as early as I am going to find. I'd want to see scans of the model and serial between the lugz.

mmm watching this with interest. So the seller is claiming the AD switched the dial to make it look like a current 1680 white sub? I suppose at the time a Red sub would look more like older stock and the white newer dialed subs would have been considered more desirable?

I was watching this listing and it's ended early. The number of times this happens is quite high - wonder what happened, seller change of heart or more likely done a deal outside of eBay.
