Good day to you all from Sydney,

I've been lurking around for a while, doing research on what best to buy, a SS Daytona, GMT or Explorer II. I had a date-just that was handed to me by my grandfather many years ago. Sadly, the watch was stolen when my house got broken into about 10 years ago. I thought I would never miss having a Rolex but I was in denial. I've always loved the Daytona Black Dial but it just lacks one thing, date. I use the date function a lot on my Tag and I think I will find it annoying looking down to find that there's nothing there. Could I be one of the few out there who would overlook the Daytona just on this basis?

The new GMT looks really good and will probably be the one I ended up getting. Explorer II also looks great and would suit my sporting lifestyle more than the other two. Oh.. it's so hard to decide. Perhaps, I should just buy all three... hmm, wouldn't that be nice.

Welcome....yes all three would be perfect.

I suggest that you try on the different models before you buy.

The SubC is a great watch to also consider and it has a date function.

I know how you feel about needing a date feature. Once you have it it is very useful.

Welcome. Buy the cheapest, because it will be the one and only time you do. You will eventually end up with more than one, each costing more than the last. Good luck.

Welcome...! I would also take a look at the new Sub C...

But the new Exp II may be worth holding on for!

The Daytona black SS is stunning....but the lack of date will get to you if you need it as described. Maybe after a sub/gmt or expii!

I know what you mean in that I love the date on my Sub-C as well. I am after a no date sub though for a change.

Careful about what you joke about....you will likely end up with all THREE!! I bought my Sea Dweller in 2008 and it was going to be my 'forever watch'....now I've got the SS Daytona, am buying the DSSD in July, and will get the new Explorer II when it's released later this year (check the forum for pics of the new ones and I bet you'll wait to try one on before buying).

And that doesn't include all of the 'vintage' goodies like a 1680 Red Sub, Double Red Sea Dweller, or GMT II (classic) that you'll likely be drwan to!!

Anyway, welcome and good luck in your search for 'a' watch....you'll buy more of them, I promise!!

Welcome to the boards. Well if you are interested in the Explorer II maybe you should hold off a little longer until it is released. If you can offoard two get the GMT-IIc now and the Explorer II later on when it is released unless you like the current Explorer II then I would say get it now while you can.

I have to say the new Explorer II does look superb. I'm not in a great rush to get one so I might hold off for it. Having said that, the SS Daytona somehow made its way into my dreams last night.. hmm looks like my subconcious mind is telling me otherwise :)

As mentioned, I would definitely try them on. Who knows, you might change your mind on the Daytona. However, if the lack of date is going to be a problem in the long run, I would vote for the GMT.

Welcome, good to see another Sydney member from here, I suggest you do not buy yet as I was stuck is a similar situation, I had my heart set on the explorer for 2 months ago then somehow I fell in love with the gmt c, originally I wanted a clean simple rolex now Im loving the gmt and not regretting it one bit. Wait at least a couple of weeks and also go try them on several times, but who am I kidding you will probably own all 3 soon after the first one

I hope you got a good deal with your GMT? It's an awesome looking watch with that green needle!

I haven't done anything about it just yet. I'm leaning more and more towards the Explorer II. I'll be going into town this weekend to take a closer look at the E II and GMT C. I've shelved the SS Daytona idea for now. I need a watch for my day to day grind, without rousing too much suspicions with my customers. One day, I'll get all three... hopefully while my eyesight is still good and can actually use it as a time piece, rather than just a wrist ornament..hehe

LOL, you're right about that! Everyone here is so passionate about their toys.

I did take a look at the Explorer II Noir yesterday. It felt like an old friend right away. It doesn't look overly pretentious, yet it's very classy with its timeless look. Unfortunately, the dealer didn't have a Polar one to compare with so I'm still somewhat undecided. The only drawback I can see with the Explorer is with the fixed bezel. I do use it all the time on my Tag and have no doubt saved me from a few parking tickets over the years. I sometimes wonder if there is a perfect watch out there. I read many folks on here finding their grail and it's something I'm starting to appreciate.

I also like the advice on buying the cheapest one first and work one's way up from there. From this stand point, the Explorer probably best fits the bill. Ohh... gee... it's so hard! It's much harder than I thought it would
