Doesn't bother me, call it what you want. I don't refer to mine as Rollies, but if someone wants to that's their call.

It is sad today that most buy a Rolex to impress others and it is not the brand it once was. They once were purchased as gifts for loved ones when they hit milestones that they could be proud of. it is just another negative connotation associated with Rolex depending on where you are coming from. Some don't even view it as negative. You can thank rap songs for this one. But where some hate it when they hear it, others love it because it lets them associate with the "famous" people who talk about them in this way. It is the younger crowd who call them this from what I have seen. It helps them to feel as though they have "made it". To me this is just another "knock" on what Rolex is becoming as opposed to what they were perceived as decades ago. Pop culture, for good or bad, makes and breaks some companies. In this case I think it is what made Rolex into what it is today.A mass-produced luxury watch that prouds themselves in using some of the most advanced autmated manufacturing techniques and process in the world, and using vertical integration to produce all the parts themselves, including alloys etc. But this has taken away from what they used to be, and you can see it in the new products they are producing. Now it is just, let's get as many Rolex watches out there in the world as possible, regardless of quality and prestige. What was once a very prestigious time piece that you could feel proud to wear and call a Rolex, has now become a "rollie" that you can spot at any gym from a college guy trying to show off, and to make it worse you won't see it on the wrist for fear it may be damaged by the massive work out.Or another post on here asking " is it okay to wear my rollie to........"
Quick story about this topic as it happened to me not to long ago.
I was in the local AD a few months back and a younger sales associate saw my Rolex on and said to me: "Hello sir, nice rolie you have there". His manager (older gentleman) quickly pulled him aside and told him "Do not let me hear you use the word rolie in this store again, they are Rolex and should be treated as such."
The younger associate looked stunned like he had no clue he had done anything wrong.

I don't like it, especially if someone is speaking of my watch.

It's too familiar for my tastes.

I think perhaps why the term "rollie" bothers some is because it sounds kinda low rent; and referring an esteemed brand in such manner really diminishes and tarnishes the brand.

I don't use the word "rollie" myself, but if others want to, then so be it.

In most circumstances where I come across its usage, it's not like I can do anything about it anyway.

I hate Rollie, Beemer, and the terms "pros and cons", "young professional"

Btw it's Bimmer not Beemer but they both sound stupid.

It sounds flippant, as if you are some sort of 'high roller' or Vegas-type who wants others to think that you are important. Classless.

Like it or not, you are judged by the words you use....pick them carefully.

Rollie rollie rollie. Lol, seriously; I don't care/mind it. I saw someone call his faded submariner a Rollie Ghost and that was catchy! :)

I personally don't use the word but no, I don't care. An individual has the freedom to express himself however he chooses.
What's next, I can't say lambo, caddy, louis vee.....so now there's also "political correctness" invading what people call a watch, sheesh.
How the heck does choosing to call a watch by a nickname give you the right to judge....I could see if I said something vulgar.

Sorry to say but some of you need to get off your high horse.

No one is saying that at all. Just a question posed and if you took the time to read the whole thread you would see that. Wasn't saying it is right or wrong, just annoys me and several other people. We have a great site here, and being able to express yourself is a wonderful thing. Call it whatever you want, but I prefer to call it "Rolex".... Sheesh

I dont mind when someone calls my watch a Rollie, I sometimes refer to it as a Rollie when I am at home and have to refer to it. However when I am around other WIS at a GTG I refer to it is a Rolex.

Someone help me. I can't decide which is better:

1) Rolex Hulk

or

2) Rollie 116610LV

You are correct, sadly we are judged by words we chose by individuals who have nothing better else to do with their time or selves, knowing nothing about the person using them.

I would say that if a person wants to judge me for using Rollie rather than Rolex to walk one year, week, day, or hour in my shoes and come out as level headed.

Books are judged by their covers by those who believe they are too superior for the words they contain. This thread has been amusing, and its amazing that in our lives, same as way back in the day, words are given so much power. Its a word, at the end of the day and it should not conjure up the feelings of disgust that it has.

Be disgusted by the poor starving, the uneducated separated by grades, dictatorships running countries and oppressing citizens, panda's sneezing on youtube getting a billion views, and that silly song by Rebecca Black "Friday" (okay the last two were jokes). But seriously, its just a word that people use for an item they may or may not possess. It does not detract away from its overall value. This reminds me of another word that I have been called a hand full of times in college and during my youth by those judging me by, um, my cover. Did I let that word bother me, nope, I just kept on trucking, and now I am in a financial position better than them, or before, to own a lovely watch that at times I call a Rolex, or Rollie.

Cheers people, it's all just my humble opinion.
