Would be great to see a close-up of that watch as it's got to have some awesome battle scars.

I could never wear that watch backwards and loose. It would drive me nuts. I also could not wear any Rolex doing construction. Yes, he always wears it this way for as far back as I can remember. My wife loves these guys.

My brother wore a Sekio chrono like that on his right wrist , asked him why said he started it while flying Chinook helicopters in Vietnam. His right hand was his "stick" hand and he could always see his watch.

We love the show and have watched every episode. Our excuse: we're old. It is a Seadweller, and I have known a couple guys in the Army that wore their watches that way. Personal preference.
He definitely wears it through all the demo's, and it probably has so many scratches that "is it safe" guys would go crazy. I love it. A real guy doing real work with a tough watch. And a fun show. |

This dude doesn't scratch up his Rolex because he only shows up for promo pics. Not actual demo work.

Yeah that would drive me nuts. I would rather not wear it on the show if they forced me to wear it that way. It would just bother me too much.
But I often see Rolex watches in shows all the time so I have a feeling this is his preference :(

Tried it as an experiment for about an hour, didn't like it, might be better with a leather strap. Remember years ago seeing people with what I could describe as a " strap with a leather case "which surrounded the watch, to check the time you had to undo a press stud and lifted the top of the case to view. I bet somebody here knows what they are called, and where to purchase them!

My wife watches this show constantly and she always likes to point out when she spots Chip's Rolex. I have never worn a watch that way though.

I'm just happy he wears it while working. I like the idea that Rolex is a tough watch that was made to be worn in all conditions. Tool watches should be worn, not kept in safes

My wife watches this show too. I caught an episode and noticed the backwards Rolex. She said he always wears it and beats the **** out of it...

Typically a watch is only worn this way by field operators for the reasons stated above and prior. A bit silly if you're not in the field or haven't been prior, but that's just my opinion. I think it's less of an issue nowadays due to mission types and darkness being preferred. |

Here's video clip with an OK look at the piece. The watch, not Joann.

yeah, I noted CHip wearing a Rolex... but not sure which one. the way he wears it is just odd. too loose. You'd think the watch is more susceptible to scratches and dings that way...

When I was young, in the Fifties and Sixties, it wasn't unusual to see men wearing their watches upside down.
I tried it and it feels quite awkward to me. I have read that pilots used to wear their watches like that in WWII so they could see the dial without flipping their wrists. It kind of makes sense, but of all the pilots I know now, I've never seen one wearing a watch upside down.

I’ve worm my watches that way since I was knee high to a grasshopper – as for wearing and using tools, a Rolex is tougher than some of you think
These watches are built to be worn – if you are scared of wearing it when doing something, then keep it in the safe. Not wearing it in the shower, swimming in the sea, playing golf etc is just ridiculous IMO |
