Explorer on Oysterflex Project Finally Complete!

Thanks to the inspiration from a number of other forum membersthat have done this, I have finally got my 214270 on OysterFlex.

I had a ton of questions and there really isn’t a lot of info out there so I will do my best to document my experience.

My wrist is just under 7 inches and my final combination was E-E on the 6:00 side and E-F on the 12:00 side. This fits me perfectly with the EasyLink closed and set to the tightest placement on the clasp. I am guessing that if you open everything up on the EasyLink and go to looser clasp setting you can pick make it quite a bit looser.

I had to search forums for the Oysterflex and actually order two sets to find the E-E/E-F combo I needed. I am going to have a couple of E-G straps extra that I will sell.

Ordered the endlinks from smartyendlinks. Please note these can take over 3 weeks for delivery, so I was waiting on the endlinks to proceed. I told George I would have happily paid a little bit more for quicker shipment so you might mention that ahead of time.

I have a local watch shop that is awesome and they put it together for me. They did mention they had to replace the pins to make the endlinks fit right.

The Oysterflex is as comfortable as described by others.

I’ve had quite a few private messages asking about how I acquired the Oysterflex.

I basically scoured the forums and EBay looking for someone selling theirs. I had to guess on my Oysterflex strap combo sizing. The first I purchased, E-G and E-E was slightly too big so I found a seller selling a combo of EG and EF. I combined the E-E and E-F for a perfect fit on my just under 7 inch wrist.

As far as I know, the only way to source and Oysterflex directly from an AD is to already have a watch that the OF comes on.

If you like it that’s all that matters. But not my taste.

Rolex is watching this thread, and they'll introduce WG Explorer on Oysterflex in Baselworld 2020.

(I mean, Explorer on Oysterflex looks that good.)

Looks amazing and I plan on doing this to my 116610 when I get it.
I found a seller who has a pair of oysterflex straps for sale.

Can anyone tell me
-what size will I know fits me, he has for sale C + E.
-how is the strap attached to the end links from smartyendlinks?
-can the strap accommodate the glidelock clasp from my 116610?

US MSRP for the Oysterflex is $270 per side if I remember correctly, the cost for George’s endlinks is around $80. The Explorer looks great on that for sure. I switched my black DaytonaC to Oysterflex soon after I got it and it’s been on six months now, very comfy.

Great post! I too very much would like to do this with an Explorer.

If I may ask, I found the official Oysterflex size guide for the YM and Daytona, which one would you say the Explorer 1 is closer in size to for the Oysterflex? From your 7in wrist, I would initially guess a size down from the size combo suggested for the Daytona, would that be correct?
Basically I’m trying to figure out what Oysterflex combo to get for my 193mm (7.6in) wrist. I don't know if I should do F&G or F&H. Any recommendations would be most appreciated!

Here’s an easy sizing trick that works like a charm...if you own a modem sports model with a bracelet, just count the number of links on each side. So for me, my Daytona 116500 has 5 links on both sides which equates to EE and EE oysterflex (each letter represents a link...so e is 5th letter, therefore it’s equivalent to 5 links on each side)

I found that ED and EF oysterflex also has the exact same fit as EE / EE because they both total 10 links equivalency. Hope this makes sense!

Did you also buy (or price?) a clasp?
