New Style TT DJ After 1 Year

It has been exactly 1 year since I purchased my new TT DJ. I really did not need another Rolex, especialy since I already had a TT GMT and a YG DD and various other watches. But after discovering that the DJ had been somewhat revamped(thanks to the forums) I had to go and look at them. It was love at first site. Convincing the wife I needed a new Rollie was another story.

I had never owned or purchased a brand new Rolex so I was looking forward to going through an AD and buying one. I went to the store on christmas eve and looked at it and got a price. They offered it with a few bucks off and ate the sales tax, I had to sleep on it. Christmas day I desided to drop the ball and do it, but the store was not open that day or the day after christmas, so I went to Jared to see what they had. These people would not deal on price or tax what so ever, so I walked.

The following day, the wife and I went to the AD and I desided to get the original TT DJ with white roman dial I looked at three days before. So an hour later I walked out with my brand new DJ. I offered to get the wife one as well, she opted for a strand of black south sea pearls and matching earings. I would of come out cheaper had she gone for a Rolex.

On to the watch. The new style DJ is a great improvement over the old style. It has a heavier feel to it. The new squared off case looks great, and I love the polished lugs as well. The most impressive part is the new Jubilee bracelet. The soild end links to the non hollow center links add a good bit of heftyness to the watch. The new designed hidden clasp is a much better design than the hidden clasp on my mid 80's Day Date. The only drawback on the new clasp as well as the one on my DD is there is no small adjustment for size. I lucked out because my wrist is a size that is comfortable for the bracelet even in hot weather.

I had the watch for about a month and noticed it kept gaining time. I would regulate it to the US atomic clock as I do with all my watches, and it was gaining about 2 minutes a week. After a another month, I called my Rolex dealer and told them what it was doing. They said bring it back and leave it with them for a few hours and their Rolex specialist would regulate it. I went back later that afternoon, and it was done, they even showed me the device the put the watch on that shows how many beats per minutes it was doing. The watch now keeps perfect time with in the + or - 2 secs for the standards of Rolex.

I have to say I wear it the least of all my watches, maybe 1 day a week or so. Mainly because I want to keep it in brand new condition. So it sits on a winder most of the time. I know sooner or later the newness will wear off and I will wear it like my other watches. I will whack on a door frame or scratch it walking through our warehouse just like I did on my DD three days after I had it serviced and polished. But I figure I have the rest of my life to rag it out so I dont have to be in a hurry.

If I had to do it over again, I would. The only regret I have is, I wish they had offered it in TT with Rose gold like some that are now coming out. I am also in love with the all gold DJ on a strap. That to me is one sweet watch.

In my opinion the TT DJ is one of the classic Rolex models and ranks up there with the Sub as far as style and reliability. Especially for someone like me who wears more dress type watches than sport or tool watches.

I hope I didnt ramble too much, as I do not get a chance to post as often as I would like.

Thanks,
Mort

Nice one, Mort...the TT DJ has always been a Rolex classic. With the advent of the newly designed case and all solid link Jubilee and Oyster bracelets, a great improvement has been made.

It worked fine, Mort. And it is a beautiful watch. I love the TT on the DJ and I especially love the Romans. It just makes for a classic looking watch. Wear it well and don't be afraid of it. Mine is a 1991 vintage and it still looks great. They can take most any pounding you can throw at them.
