Been in PIMCO specifically PHK (symbol) for years. When I got it 10+ years ago I locked in 12% and still am collecting monthly on that investment. I use PIMCO for my fun money, cars, watches, vacations. Check out PHK and don't be afraid to invest a little to vette if out.

I know it well, it's a CEF (closed end fund) not for the faint of heart, more standard deviation than the S&P 500 and it's well out on the yield curve so it'll be very interest rate sensitive, but it does have a 12% yield.

Everything in moderation

I was in PHK for quite a few years and had it set up as a DRIP. always loved the monthly surprises! Tapped out earlier this year. Tried to get back in after Gross left, but never hit my target and not it went back into $12.3ish range.

And with a close to 50% premium, there are other CEFs to be had. i play in EAD and NCV

azguy - any opinions on AGN? With VRX hoping to increase offer to at least $200, does AGN have legs for some extra $$. A lot of drama with this one right now. They had a nice quarter, but VRX also announced the same day a plan to increase offer.

If VRX decides enough is enough AGN will fall considerably, just not enough upside for me to be involved, even if VRX goes from $200 to $215 in their offer, IDK, much better plays out there IMHO.

I bought a lot of Twitter today if that matters, lol...

What are your opinions on mREIT's with similar yields to these CEFs? Are CEFs the safer option?

Great question, for the most part, REITs have more volatility than the S&P 500, at least over the last 3 years. While there are many CEFs (obliviously depending on the asset class, manager, etc) with less volatility than the S&P 500.

I'll post some graphs later that will help.

As for yield, there are tons of both in the 6-9% yield range so common sense would say always take the less volatility investment.

So did you get in BABA? If so, you should be up nicely. I bought into BABA in mid Oct but would expect a pull back as folks take some profits.

Baba is a on a run, up from $100 to $116 in 5 or 6 days. Don't own any.

I bought Chevron over the last 2 weeks and still buying GOGO on dips, like today.

Bought tons of Apple during sell-off in the high 90's and that's worked out well, Also bought XTN and XLE in October, huge gains in both.

Buy when they cry and sell when they yell, always.....

Smart moves. I bought Apple (yet again) in the 90's and already own lots of CVX and COP and KMI. I sold a bunch of BRK, LMT, and GILD the other day (too soon, I know) to build up lots of cash for the next dip. I hold some LMT for the long term.

Smart moves by you and azguy. I wish I would've listened to my wife, she bought more of AAPL in the 90s. I went with AGN at $168.

stocks and gold

Gold went up nicely today.

Gold up = stocks down

This time both are up.

I may exit by year end all of current withholding stocks.

Gold could hit high some times by first quarter of 2015

Just curious how many of you have AAPL?

Wife holds it. I trade it once a year as it predictably goes way down and then way up every year. Next time it drops below 100 I'll buy back in.

If Iwatch doing well when it comes out, Apple would be sky rocket soon ,$230 perhaps?

If not, there is a big challenge for them.
This has been an unbelievable cycle for iPhones upgrade. Which is difficulty to duplicate.

I do still like the very first Motorola Razor, even got the 6+ gold now.

Got to support Apple, because I have large stake of their suppliers .

Seems no one was talking about Apple's suppliers?

Geez reading that's like pouring salt in a wound, I missed XLE I have been waiting for it to drop back to 80. I went with BP and HAL both haven't gone as well as I hoped. I did hop in on VA idk how long I should ride the wave.

It's really the only instant social media provider. Most breaking news be it political or sports hits twitter before anything else.

But the key is building their advertising network like FB ha done, that's were the revenue is...
