Best Method of Shipping a Rolex

Looking for a recommendation from you guys and girls for the best and most secure method of shipping a watch from point A to point B . I've read a recent post here and the gent claims that registered mail is the best way to go but that would take the most time no doubt.

Your thoughts please!
Bill

Man talk about firepower. Never thought of that but I'm buying from private seller and I will ask his AD that question.
Thanks Mate

It all depends of the value.
Under 5.000 dollars USPS/EMS will be great. it will be delivered before 12 next day if shipped to a zip within a metropolitan area.
If the value is more than 5.000 then Register Insured for the particular amount, I ususally use brown paper to cover the box and then have the post office apply their red stamp all over the sims of the covering brown paper.

USPS Registered Mail is the way to go, IMHO. It is kinda slow, but very secure since every person handling the watch has to sign for it.

yeah and also what ever you do, make sure you try to overnight it ... the less time it spends in the mail system and trucks, the less chance it will get lost .....also have signature required option checked ... don't just have it left at the destination ...

Registered insured is the best way - that is what Rolex uses - actually the RSCs are VERY specific as to the way it has to be shipped, otherwise they will reject it.

rsc in ny advises you to ship it registered mail and declare the value, when you send a watch to them for service.

Definitely don't do it via Fedex - if there is a problem and they discover it was a rolex shipped, they will only insure for $500 - I have heard the horror stories on various forums.

Registered mail is by far the best and most secure way. As you say it's slow, but I've never minded that. (well ok if I'm the one waiting maybe a little LOL!)

I've used UPS for years. They insure up to $50K US, and they have never lost a package that is marked "high value". They put it in the lock up, and get it there quick.

FEDEX scares me because every time i've sent watches for repair (Seiko) the guy at the counter has asked what's in the box? My reply was electronic parts for repair. Also locally, a couple of idiots who work in the FEDEX distribution center were caught stealing frieght and selling to the underword. So I'm a little parinoid(sp) about them.

Thanks all for your help.

REGISTERED MAIL

I have shipped thousands of packages and never lost one yet.

Lost plenty of UPS, but never a Registered mail

Not the fastest, but it will get there.

I had to look this one up for myself.

http://www.fedex.com/us/services/ter...iabilitylimits

I would never use Fedex for a watch shipment again!

Thanks for this info.

A postal employee posted here that they handle their "registered" packages" with extra care. They really get special treatment as they can track the employee as well as the package. They don't want to lose their jobs along with a package.

Depends where A and B is Bill.

All my shipping was done using our Australia Post Registered. I only sent one overseas, that was to El Paso, TX. Took about a week, but got there safe and sound. Registered and insured is the best method IMHO.

Since Fedex doesn't insured more than $500 for jewelry, you should use the next most reliable shipper - UPS. ~Hien

Anyone have any thoughts on using UPS, provided they will insure the watch for real value unlike FedEx?

Just say NO to FEDEX! I've heard of many horror stories in the past. My AD here in Dallas won't even use Fedex. They use USPS only! Hope that helps! =-)

The final consensus is registed mail or usps EMS. That is the way I shall request my first shipment be forwarded. Now to find the perfect used rolex!

I used REGISTERED MAIL and it worked out very well, I added insurance. No problems but it took about 4 days to get there.

I'm in the UK and have always used Fedex and never had any problems. However, the last watch I shipped cost me over £50 / $100 and they would only insure for up to £230. OK, it was from UK to Australia but too expensive and it took 6 days to arrive.

Also, I have heard of a package being slit open en-route and the contents stolen BUT the outside packaging was still tracked all the way to the end. Fedex argued that the shipment arrived ok and didn't want to pay up.

I hope they read these things because they are losing market share fast and don't seem to care.

Anyone in the UK care to recommend a good international alternative?
