Can you get into the departure area without a ticket at the Istanbul airport? I was thinking you can meet me at the gate. I arrive 2/25 in the morning. I will be traveling with five others and since I am in chanrge, I can't exactly yank them around the airport too much. I'll PM you.

Hi Aykun,
I've just gone through this whole thread. I think Robert's deal seems pretty good. Naturally, I would recommend Robert in a heartbeat as I've known him for a very long time and trust him explicitly. At least you can be sure that Robert's Rolex is 100% genuine!! And if you can save a few bucks along the way, why not? Good luck - JJ

I too think that Robert's offer is a sound one. It would be a tremendous story of the relationships and integrity of our members if this transaction was successful!
Good luck to you both and let us know how it turns out!

Personally, I'd never move on another watch until I met with Robert and looked his over first! He is much more of a "known" person than you will find elswhere, not a store front vendor. He is proposing equity, not some shady gray-market deposit and an unknown source. He is able to verify everything he claims in a solid manner. Plus, this would give you both a great story to tell...
Hey Robert, ya passing through ATL? Congrats, Aykun! If you do it, ya'll take pictures!

I would expect some minor surface scratches, esp on the gold parts, being that it is a used watch, but those are easily buffed out.

okay okay you are right those are so normal things and I dont look for brand new Rolex, but a deep scratch cause of dropping or accident is not acceptable.

The biggest mark looks like a pin prick on the left side of the case in the steel. I will photograph it this evening for you. |

Okay I got home, took off my watch and shot it. Still dirty and right off my wrist. You can see a teeny tic mark on the side. All else is superficial and can be buffed out. These are normal pics, no touch ups. It can only look BETTER in person because this is 5-10x life size! Enjoy.

Aykun, I wouldn't buy Roberts watch. It's all scratched up. You should buy a nice new one and I will buy his beater!
One month after they are new, they look like Roberts and the truth is the pictures are deceiving. They look great on the wrist when not magnified 10 times like that. My TT Sub looked just like his and I had my dealer polish it up when I put my new dial in and now it looks perfect. 1st pic is Robert's now and the other two are what it would look like with a simple polish. I only make these comments Aykun because I get the impression you are looking to get a new watch without imperfections and all used watches are going to have a mark or two, hence the price difference from new. My point is just to show you that they can be brought back to almost new condition for very little money. My dealer charges $50-75 for a polish. Not trying to pimp Roberts watch just an FYI. Good luck. Whose ever watch you buy, great choice. The TT GMT II is a beautiful piece!

Thanks for honest photos Robert but why and how a watch can be scratched like this and in 1 year short time I dont understand but I will buy the watch without anymore questions about scratches with just and just %5 discount over your price only %5 I think I dont want too much for this beautiful GMT 2 C with a ping on the case that is impossible to remove unless taking everything inside outside and cleaning, and I will never attempt, also small and normal scratches and without box anyway if you agree with my deal I will buy if the watch is working properly at airport and I will pay cash %5 discounted and also I will pay your visa fee. That is my deal.

It got like this in the first 3 weeks I had it. That's soft gold for you. I am sure others on the board can say if this looks normal or not. I do not know how "deep" the ping on the side is. I guess I can have an AD buff it, but it will only scratch again!

Okay, Aykun, a few thoughts:
1. My Bluesy which I have only had for a little over a month looks almost that way under strong magnification too. (of course I did clean it with ammonia once! jk) 2. David makes a good point that polishing it will remove all blemishes except the pin mark. 3. It is a used watch and you are saving money by buying from a reputable TRFer. Robert: wrap the brushed SS with electrical tape and use a polishing cloth on the gold and polished SS to clean it up a bit to show Aykun how this can clean up. Finally, if you want perfect and keep it perfect, buy a clock. A watch is meant to be worn and will get scratches unless you treat it like this!

A friend of mine in my camera club recently passed away at 57 year of age. I hope his cameras were thrashed. I would hate to see the cameras looking as though they were mint and brand new out of the box. What would the point be then? Take a picture of a perfect watch and admire that. Life is meant to be lived and savored!
My Rolex TT GMTII is only 13 months old but it has lived. I bought it in Qatar where it saw the Doha games. It went to Florida and I learned to fly with it. Then California, Las Vegas, Atlanta, Dallas, Nashville, and Istanbul six times and Moscow twice. I have worn it when firing my 9mm M9, my .223cal M4, an AT-4 rocket, and capping off 8 bricks of C-4. It has been with me in Embassies, SCIFs, Centcom HQs, and points I cannot even talk about. I keep it set for times in Dushanbe, Tampa, and Hawaii, and use them all. I traveled in 13 airplane flights in 2 weeks and needed every function the watch had. It was on my wrist when I met Karzai. It's the coolest watch here in the Embassy and likely in the entire country. When I started a calibration post here, I found that it gained 20 seconds a month. That's awesome. Now I am preparing for a run of 15 airplane flights in a row. Darned right it has scratches. I'm proud of every one of them. Other watches may have collapsed by now. But this is a Rolex. It is just warming up. Aykun, I only asked to meet in the middle between two fixed, known pricepoints. Dealer buy price plus dealer sell price, divided by two. Plus free delivery straight through customs in a personal face to face transaction right at Istanbul airport. Don't like the watch? Simply pay my $20 visa fee and we keep smiling. You PM'ed me with an offer a mere $140 less than that point. Now after seeing the scratches you publicly offer me $340 less. I'm sorry, but I picked this price for you and only for you. I suppose you are better off with your local jewelers in finding a Rolex. I hope you find exactly what you want at the price you want. Sorry I couldn't help but it was worth a try. I withdraw this sales offer and hereby refer potential buyers to my offer as listed on the regular "for sale" boards. The watch is still up for grabs, no rush, and I will still get my SG Bluesy. And when I get to Tampa, I may just pay my AD $50 to polish this one up for me. It can be a late one-year birthday present for all it has done for me. All Robert's watch needs is a good buffing at an AD. Will look good as new.
My AD buffs mine out for free whenever I ask them to and not a scratch on then afterward. |

There are no ceramic scratches. You are seeing things that are not there. I definitely think you should buy brand new to be completely assured of a perfect looking watch.

I figure with the little tic mark maybe the dealer offered me $200 less than if it was not there. In which case he would sell it for $200 less. That means my price to you includes that $200 less. So even if the watch had a million miles on it, the price was fair.

Dealers in the EU can NOT sell many gold Rolex watches (but they have to order Gold Rolex watches regularly as the high priest says so-I would too at 10 times mark-up) because they are considered rather "passe" from the EU public/consumer. They (the Turks) get 32% off the EU retail price plus on average another 18% which is the Value Added Tax (VAT). Now the beautty of it all is that the AD in order to get rid of the Gold "Onion" he let's the Turk have a sports model which is the "Prime Rib" of the matter. The Turkish Gray dealer then sells the Gold Rolex immediately to another Gray dealer or Remarketing Specialist (LOL) at cost, even a couple of hundred Euro less than cost and he keeps the "Prime Rib"for himself. There are two Remarketing Specialists there that have the best Deals. But even with the best discounts the mighty Euro (all transactions in Euro) still makes the watch expensive. I can buy right here in the good old U.S. of A. for $7.750 Box & Papers |

Hey, if you are going to be in the U.S. anytime, I have a GMT TT with very few scratches for 7k. You can check it out in the FS section.

Clock? Like yours? Anyway Im fedup Im not buying Robert's watch he refused my acceptable offer for his dead Rolex like a dead horse there isnt even just 1 sign of being used properly in any photos, Im disappointed and that's a dream to expect a proper look from a watch of a soldier that's used everywhere in earth, and he cares even for 20 USD after getting my offer that's more funny.
