And I got a discount.

Don't think I would have given your AD any of my money. But it's your money, your life and your choice.
This, had the same experience except for no discount :(
-but was able to keep the warranty card, green tag/price tag, inner box, outer box sleeve, AND plastic shipping box.

I think it's dealer preference, and if the AD you dealt with isn't decent enough to sell you a skydweller if you're BUYING a daytona to go along with it, then.....I'd be moving it along, it isn't worth it IMO. I'd have walked out too. And I have a strong feeling that if you went through with it, you'd have left there feeling used.

Did I do the right thing?

Did they say you’d never get the boxes, etc for the WG Daytona? Or just get them later?

If my AD said he’d hold my boxes for a year, then I’d be giddy. Free storage!

Now if I was the old serial flipper I used to be...not such a happy boy without the full set right then and there.

But I get your reactions- and if it put you off, then your reluctance to do business on those terms is good.

Thanks guys for all your responses. To be clear I would never have been given the tags or the outer box. AD would have retained them forever.
I'm happy I made the right decision.

Jason I guess it's bad luck on your side as I remembered an earlier thread of yours whereby an AD tried to get you to buy another. Did anything come of you writing to Rolex and / or AD?

You really need to find a local AD who will work with you.

Hi Harvey, I spoke with the other AD, who happens to be local to me, and it was clear I had to purchase additional watches to get the ones I want. This is the same AD that I've previously purchased 7/8 watches from in the past and introduced others too.
What I'm seeing from both experiences is AD's looking to increase sales by using the hot watches to shift less desirable ones. Can't blame them for trying that tactic. Rolex probably insist they shift X number of watches or lose their AD status.
Also my closest AD is closing in the new year so I'm back to square one really. I'll just enjoy what I have already and see what happens.
Still want to get something special for my 50th though

First I've heard of an AD insisting on keeping the box. What the hell?! *Apologies it says outer box plus tags, which doesn't surprise. Agree correct thing is to walk in such a situation.

I'd personally steer clear of that situation. They don't seem to want your business unless you jump through their hoops, and (I could possibly be reading this wrong) they're making it extra hard for you because you're an outsider. Feels like an icky transaction.

Those saying no box ;

A new Rolex comes in a green box. Then there is a white outer sleeve that covers this green box.

The AD will be meaning they won’t give him the outer sleeve, not that they won’t give him the actual green box

They don't, AD's play this game and that's why you better of buying grey and avoid bundling deals

It's not an acceptable practice. It's different if you want both the reference.

I hope you get on to list for your 50th! Dare I say it, even if it's a non Rolex entity.

Yes you did the right thing. I would’ve done the same. No watch is worth jumping hoops over. I’d be satisfied with what I have.

What a poor experience when you are about to drop that weight of money.

This is BS. Walk away.
And BTW the WG Daytona can be negotiated to 10% off the MSRP.
