Advice on Daily Wearer Please!

Hi All,

I currently have these 2 Rolex’s in my collection however, I do not wear them daily as they are mint unpolished full set examples. As silly as this sounds, I wear them sparingly on occasion to keep them nice and crisp. It also makes wearing them more special. I have a BNIB 79220N that I want to sell as I never wore it yet and would like to add some money to that pot for a daily. What do ya’ll recommend around the 4-5 k range? I’m a bigger guy, so 36mm wouldn’t be ideal for me. I’m open to other brands as well.

Thanks!!

Jon

You have 2 beauties there. My recommendation is to wear them and enjoy. Life is short, enjoy it while you can.

Honestly I would wear these. Beautiful watches. Scratches can always be removed at service time if they bother you.

If you must have another as a daily I love a traditional Speedmaster with hessalite crystal. Can polish scratches from the crystal and they look great on coloured leather or nato bands as well as the bracelet. 42mm as well so I would guess the size is suitable. Guaranteed to get the glance of approval of most WIS and maybe even strike up a conversation but fly under the radar to general public while still looking like "a nice watch"

Eta. They are cheap too. Davidsw has one for under 3k! (No affiliation to him or the watch)

You'll feel the same with any new acquisition. It's a mindset.

Why not get a rubber band from somewhere like Everest. That way you don’t have to wear on the stainless bands and keep them nice and tight. I get what your putting down. I wore my sub for years daily. I now bought a black gmt. I’m going to put a everest band on it so I do not ruin the bracelet. I am in the construction Business so I beat the crap out of my daily watches by.

Get a Submariner no-date 14060. Get one that's already got some scuffs and dings, no box, no papers. It will feel as familiar as your SD but it's thinner and cleaner without the date window. $5,500 will cover it.

And once you see how relaxing and carefree a no-worry Rolex can be it'll become your favorite watch, the one you covet the most. The ones you worry about are the ones that hit the back of the sock drawer. Trust me on this.

If you have a Rolex wear it every day. If you have a Rolex and insist on not wearing it every day then buy the cheapest watch you can find and wear it when you don't want a real watch on your wrist.

Simple, no?

The two watches you have are two of the best daily wearers Rolex has ever made. Enjoy them

As the others have said, wear what you have. Whatever you plan to buy next, you'll be reluctant to wear that as well. I'm speaking from experience. I wanted a Rolex Submariner 11406 for my entire life, and once I got it I barely wore it, lest it damaged in some way. Am I careful with? Absolutely. But, after a lot of encouragement on the forums, it's become my daily and the centerpiece of my collection. Enjoy what you. Build a connection and bond with those two awesome watches.

I am with the rest and say wear the amazing pieces you have. I suspect though your mind is set on getting a different watch as a daily, so will venture an opinion.
Maybe look at omegas for that range- seamaster (new one) , speedmaster variants, Railmaster
Tudor GMT or black bay.

I have traded through many, many sports Rolex. You have 2 of the best! Like others suggested; wear them. I have full sets, and I’ll have them serviced someday when they need to be put back into original condition. Or perhaps my son will enjoy them and know the marks on them were made by me, and he will continue to add to those memories without polishing. Get them out and make some memories with the References you have. (Although it is always fun to keep adding and trading!)

If you are looking for enablement, how about adding a Tudor black bay or pelagos? I really like the blue Pelagos but it’s a bit too big for my 7” flat wrist. Tried it. Want to love it. Just can’t pull it off. Those should wear well since you are a big guy. For me, I stick to Rolex because we can trade them without taking the hit one does with other brands. Have fun ~ YOLO

How about tudor black bay 58?

Or go little fancy and buy a zenith el premero with open heart. On used market it is reasonably priced. They have been growing on me recently. Also you need a chronograph in your collection.

Also, I agree with the others, enjoy your watches. There are much more expensive watches out there that are enjoyed by their owners. Scratches are no big deal.

These 2 are as daily as you can get in Rolex, I suggest odd days GMT and even days 16600.

Back to your question on an addition with a 4-5k budget, there's nothing better than a omega speedmaster racing 40mm or a 42mm. It's a fine watch, fits the bill and gets you into a chronograph.

Wear them and invest in stock to make profit. If you get an Omega as per suggestions you will worry about the scratches too.

I highly recommend a Speedmaster Pro for daily use.

If you prefer a Rolex for daily use, and if you want to stay in the $4-$5 range, then I recommend a previously loved Explorer I in the 39mm case.

These watches are versatile, durable, low-key, and a delight to wear every day.

Keep them in perfect condition—the next owner will thank you!

These aren’t Picasso’s. They’re mass produced. They don’t all end up being Neuman Daytonas. The reason some of the old ones are so valuable is no one saw them as collectible back in the day and actually used them as they were meant. Today, everyone is saving the boxes, tags, even removed stickers are saved by some. Let your watch be your watch and enjoy as intended.

Check with an old guy, doubt you’ll find one that says he wished he kept his watches in mint condition by not wearing them as much!

Have to agree just cannot see the point of buying any watch if you are not going to wear it, a Rolex is just a watch nothing more and meant to be worn.

Wear them until they are totally worn and have them serviced at a RSC to look as a BNIB example again.

Hundreds of thousands of your references were made, nothing rare which requires pampering, easy to pick up a new mint example if damaged beyond repair from wearing daily

Buying a speedy will only put you in the same dilemma.

If you must a G-shock it should be

Stop worrying and wear your watches. I bought one of my 1665s not long ago. It was in this condition when I purchased it. The previous owner bought it in Las Vegas with some of his winnings, and then he proceeded to wear it like it was a $10 quartz.

I sent it off to have it serviced and it came back looking like this:

You say it makes it more special when you wear it only occasionally. I challenge you to wear your watches and make memories with them. It will make it more special IMHO.

Wear what you have. It's sad to see a Sea-Dweller and GMT II sit idle in their boxes only to be taken out on Sunday for an occasional photograph.

Our time is finite. We have an expiration date no matter what. Might as well enjoy the heck out of it while we're here. I daily my watches with no regrets and no apologies.

I would also recommend wearing them.

I wear mine to death to be honest. The bangs scrapes and scratches they pick up give them personalities and memories.

If you want a daily wearer then my recommendations are

Seadweller
Bb 58
Speedmaster (heselite in leather)

I would have all 3, but if I wanted slimline probably 2 and 3.

Of course switch 2 with 1 if you are a die hard rolex fan
