Not to me after being through hell with Honda on our MDX and treated like a king with my Audi.

Just got a new Audi A4. Thanks for posting this! Buying my VW off of lease, so good to see that also.

Are these new car problems, within 3 months?
When I consider car reliability, I think of long term, particularly after the warranty period. |

I wonder why Audi ranks so much lower than both Porsche and VW? They're all VAG cars.

I asked my SA for a copy of my service history when I returned a lease. $9500 in warranty on their tab. $800 tires on my tab. Didn’t buy it for reliability. That B&O 28 speaker stereo was the best part. |

I don't think JD Power "dependability ratings" provide a meaningful picture of reliability or durability in the medium to long term. They address how many problems per 100 vehicles arose within a relatively short period of time from purchase as new. That can come down to better fit and finish on luxury brands, meaning fewer minor niggles relating to assembly. I wouldn't conclude from it that brands like BMW, Volkswagen and Audi will be more reliable and durable in the long term than brands like Honda or Acura.

Aside from the disclaimer at the bottom, there is this:
Quote:
So if someone does not like the radio buttons or fan speeds or wiper motor noise, it gets logged as a problem. In addition the release of new models can skew the data. While I believe there is some validity to the data, having filled out two of those surveys I would not soley base my opinion of a brand on this data alone. Interesting study of the reporting methodology by Forbes https://www.forbes.com/sites/jimgorz.../#2638b9ec6988 Quote:

Isn’t it bizarre how JLR consistently do badly.
I would like to know what the company think about it. They obviously know what warranty issues their cars have – but presumably are not bothered or unable to improve. I have had loads of their cars and been fairly lucky with them, but on the one instance where JLR customer services were involved they were terrible, so I conclude that the company from customer services to the top management are inept and really do not care. Imagine the damage to the company and lost sales volume. |

Concur This ranking is based on extremely short term new cars with no differential as to issue. If one wants an accurate ranking of reliability, ask several independent mechanics. The top ten brands are always headed by Toyota, Honda, Lexus, Acura, etc. Independent mechanics REPEATEDLY say don’t own a MB, BMW, Audi, Land Rover, etc. without a factory warranty, which is PC for POS .............. in relation to reliability.

Honda/Acura have been rated below BMW and Audi the past few years by the JD survey. This isn't a one off situation.

Buick though, underdog of the year.
Maybe many aren't sold compared to the rest? Porsche gets better and better every year. |
