Venison and bison in these parts. Any horses here are work or show animals. Can't see myself eating Ol' Paint.

Never heard of eating horse.... outside of my cousin's husband who told me that in certain parts of Italy, horse meat is popular.

Note: Many are raised purely for meat. Not end of labor, then for food, use.

Still, I'd have a hard time eating an animal that's smart enough to be trained. Pigs are the exception since they'll eat their owner if given the opportunity. It happens.

During multiple trips to China, I was served slightly frozen raw horsemeat sliced thinly sashimi-style. Swished in a ponzu dipping sauce, it was actually pretty tasty.

Tastes like chicken?

I once ate some Sea Biscuit which was quite good.

Had it in a Willits diner.

I've eaten horse at least once a week all my life.

Smoked, steaks, in stew, it is great meat.

That is ridiculous, why would it be illegal? Isn't it the land of freedom? ...

In the US we seem to have a strong line between pets/food that is rarely crossed regardless of logic behind the predisposition.

Contrary to popular belief, we don't eat people here anymore either.

You’ve eaten it many times. You just don’t know it.

When I ate it, it was in France and Portugal. It was good, and clearly marked.

A horse is not a pet. I don't see why it would be different from earing cow.

I agree. We don’t need them since we have horseless carriages, and if all it takes is a leg sprain to put one down, that’s poor design. It’s like a Panda.

Horses are pets here. Owners keep them in stalls, feed them, clean up after them (called "mucking"), ride them, show them, race them, jump them, etc. Or, they're work animals on farms.

We don't specifically raise horses to eat. Cows we do.

We do that too, yet we also raise horses to eat, since the meat is delicious.

I feel like there is a very big taboo on eating horse meat in the US, yet it is so common here. Odd.

There’s farms in the usa that sell to processing plants since 2011.

The horses are raised, surrendered or found or sold at auction.

I’m telling you, you’ve eaten it.

If Han can slice open a TaunTaun, shove Luke in it, you can eat a horse.
