Absolutely nothing for sale in some London AD's

Harrods, Selfridge's and a couple of others I went into over the weekend, semi empty cases and the only watches on display were exhibition only.

One SA told me Rolex is like a closed private club, and that if you don't have a purchase history with them previously you've missed the boat.

The Tudor SA in Harrods was too busy on his phone to even acknowledge me.

The Omega boutiques? Well that's the total opposite.

So? Where is the news?
It’s been like this in every country for 2-3 years

Nothing, I have two already. It was pleasant being able to talk to an employee who enjoyed watches and enjoyed talking about the brand they work for.

I tried on the new Ultra Deep though.

Don't sweat it. At the rate the markets are imploding and housing is teetering there will be plenty of non hyped models available by this time next year.

Agreed, matter of 'when' rather than 'if' there is a return to pre-hype levels of demand.

There really aren’t any watches that are that hard to get. They just don’t want to give them to you. They want you to buy a bracelet. Spend $18k on this for your wife and I’ll get you my next sprite. You buy this $15k bracelet I’ll give you a green sub- I have one here- we can do this today.

They have plenty to sell. They just won't sell them to you. Which watches did you ask them about?

Exactly how it’s been in London (and most other UK cities) for quite some time now. A delivery comes in, and allocated instantly to people on “lists”.

Walking into a Rolex AD is pretty pointless now, in fact the Rolex boutique beside me is entirely appointment only.

There are watches. When I got my Black Bay Pro and basically know what’s in the safe and was told who gets the call.

I got skipped in the line just because.

Members only by the looks of it. The kind of member who spends huge amounts, that is. I don't mind, it's only business, I have enough watches for the rest of my life.

Sure, if they call me one day I'll probably turn up to check out the piece in the flesh and try it on. Might even buy it if I like it and feel like celebrating a milestone.

Do we need ADs? No. Do they need us? Yes.
