New to the forums - quick question
(Let me know if there is a better place to post things like this)
I have a very specific reference that I would like to buy. Mostly as an investment and also to wear on special occasions. I know there are quite a few sellers that are very reputable on here. Regardless, is it normal practice to get a watch authenticated after purchasing? What happens if it it turns out to be unauthentic? I am ready to make a large purchase, but want to make sure I can verify that what I’m buying is truly genuine |

Firstly welcome to the forum.
Buy a watch because you like it, if you want an investment go to Vanguard If you buy through one of the rock solid trusted sellers (e.g. David SW) you will have very little to worry about, but you will pay a premium for that piece of mind. Quote:

I do not buy from sellers watches that have to be authenticated. DavidSW is the best and he stands behind everything he sales. Do your research, call the seller, become comfortable with the process and get yourself the watch you want. You will see a lot from relatively new buyers/collectors talking about getting watches checked unless they come from an AD and that is ok if it makes you feel better but that is exactly what it is, your feelings. Paranoia and OCD do not typically go well with watch collecting and most of those that exhibit those characteristics do not last long in the hobby because it takes a toll on them and no one wants to deal with them. I am not saying throw caution and good sense to the wind but do your homework, research and move forward. Good luck.

Again, if the seller is reputable, and you do find that your watch is "unauthentic", they will likely return your money. If they are not reputable, you may not get your money back. If you are looking at an older purchase, it gets more dicey because you do not know who has handled it and changed things. Then you have to decide how "original" or "authentic" you want your purchase to be.

Welcome to the forum
Beyond buying the seller as mentioned above, you can have your Rolex authenticate done at RSC. I bought a vintage piece several years ago (yes from a trusted seller here) but for peace of mind I had it done. It was $150 at the time. Good luck |
