Anyone ever been asking to make a full payment for a watch they've ordered?

Happened to a close friend of mine. He is a "loyal" customer and has bought alot in the past from this boutique.

No timeline on this one though, but been told to pay in full to secure the next coming watch. Could take 6 months, could take longer, all depends especially since there are less watches coming in this current period.

Never heard of that being asked, so I'm curious if anyone has had similar experiences.

Curious which watch that is? I put down 30% deposit for a 15500, but paid for the next two (Beast and 26331) on delivery. I could imagine the BT asking for a large downpayment for something less pedestrian (e.g., a Concept), which might not be too easy to move quickly if a customer changes their mind, and also seems to come with a more uncertain the delivery schedule.

Watch is actually a blue 15500.
I’m curious why they’d ask for the payment in full or if this is normal, I’ve personally never heard of it happening.
Maybe to bump the list?

well westime owns boutiques in Vegas and Beverley hills as well as one in Miami that's not corporate.

personally I would not care about paying full price if delivery is within a month or two.

Hm. Clearly not something where they'd worry about being stuck with the watch for more than 5min. Full deposits are a good deterrent for waitlist-shopping, but of course no idea why they'd do that now.

I paid in advance for a Cal. 321 Speedy, similarly with the assurance that the next-to-next would be mine - but the expectation was that this was going to be a couple of months, not some indeterminate timeframe.

When I purchased my 15500OR with full bracelet last year, they just asked for $1000 refundable deposit only.

If it is AP boutique, I wouldn't mind to put 100% deposit if they promise that the next one will be mine.

Did not happen with any of my purchases at AP boutique, as recently as last week. Who knows why.

As a first time AP buyer the boutique required me to wire full funds prior to giving me a delivery date. They gave me an estimation range though and my new 26331 blue dial came two weeks ago!

Moving forward, they did say I could use my CC.

Just curious but what was the wait time between the deposit and you receiving the watch? Btw my AD boutique mentioned that as first time customer, when putting in my deposit, I’d have to either wire funds or stop by the boutique w cc. Going forward, they can accept cc over the phone since I would be an existing customer.

I think your taking the risk of A: the store going out of business or bankrupt and/or B: getting a defective watch or outright the wrong watch. I wouldn't take the risk of either so I wouldn't pay in full. A 25% down payment or deposit is for good faith, but full payment should only be paid upon delivery of your satisfied request.

well if you are dealing with AP corporate I doubt they will go out of business. also, what's the big deal? If you ware pursuing AP watches, I am assuming you are not spending your last pocket money to buy the watch. Given how crazy global demand is paying upfront for a SS watch seems reasonable to ensure the buyer is serious. Of course if we are talking about 300k complication piece maybe less so.

I’d ask for ETA and in the absence of which a call with the boutique manager to understand if this bumps you up the list. If it’s AP Corp boutique I’d have zero issues paying in full.

SA in Singapore advised me many months ago, they would only seek a deposit if they saw me getting the piece within a year.
