Icon20 Price increase rumour by AD's...

Got the following email on the 16th of January 2015 from an AD in India who has a chain of stores here in India. Along with Rolex they sell other top brand luxury watches. Should an AD resort to such tactics by sending mass emails to customers? Its been nearly forty days since then and basically nothing has happened. Doesn't this amount to misleading the customer? Its okay to do so orally but in writing? Dunno!
This is the email:
Over the last 24 hours the Swiss Franc has appreciated from Rs.60.20 and is currently trading at Rs.71.50 . This sudden 20% appreciation of the Swiss Franc is caused by the decision to delink the Swiss currency from the Euro. As a result, a price rise in all Swiss watches is imminent and is just around the corner. This makes it a great time to invest in a luxury watch in the next two weeks before the price rise happens.

If you are planning to buy a Swiss watch in the next few months, I urge you to prepone your decision and buy it within the next 7-10 days in order to avoid disappointment due to a currency led price rise. Your favourite brands are currently available at prices that have not yet been corrected and are unlikely to remain as low. It is an investment you will not regret and one that you will treasure as it appreciates.

Warm regards

Seems like some people didn't bother reading the OP fully.

To answer your question...Yes, it is poor form on the part of the AD, and such sales tactics might be frowned on in Geneva.

That exactly is my point...the Swiss Watch Makers Association or by whatever name the body goes should take note. They are shown in poor light by such 'iffy' sales tactics.

My favorite part of the letter is "prepone." What a great word. Googled to see if it's an actual term, and apparently it is in India.

Great isn't it? Lots of good old English words survive in India. Others that I can remember being in use there, that are not heard so much in England these days, include Desirous and Counterpane.

Widely used word here...I remember our English teacher in school 'take off' if someone used it. :)

We are working hard to 'preserve' the English language. :)

With scare tactics like that your AD has the potential to become a famous politician. Feels pretty slimy to me.

I have only got some quotes from them and have never purchased anything from them. Its better to buy from family owned or stand alone AD's rather than chain stores like these who just want to make a quick buck and basically misguide people. I normally use the website of the above mentioned concern to know the MSRP that various brands are selling at in the country.

I think prepone is a fantastic word. I just informed my wife she needs to prepone her way to the bedroom. She looked at me and said HUH !

I think you need to prepone yourself a new Rolex.

My AD told me there was a price increase coming and that I had better buy soon so his boss doesn't make more of a margin!

Well the only part where he got it wrong is that Patek for one basically, as I understood, lowered the prices worldwide by 5-7% and only raised the euro zone prices by 7%, anyways never, ever believe what an AD tells you, in person or by writing…

Perfect response to a Rolex AD: "well then, I'll buy Patek because their prices are decreasing."
