Which watch to get?

Hi all, firstly didn't know what section to put it in.

Looking for some advice, recently inherited a 16203 Rolex Oyster Perpetual Datejust 36mm from my late father, dad wore it everyday as he received it from my mum for his 40th. He also got another one for his 50th but he didn't wear that as much. I've never been a watch wearer up until receiving this but have wore it every day since.

I have since put myself on a waiting list for a Tudor Black Bay GMT, but it probably won't arrive till September/October. I am looking for a 2nd watch in the meantime as I don't want to wear the Rolex every single day. For example I am out in Greece in 2 weeks time for a mates wedding, I don't want to take the Rolex out there for that.

I have whittled it down to either a Tudor Black Bay with red bezel or a Omega Seamaster 300 in Blue.

The reason behind the Seamaster is I am a big James Bond fan, and its a nice classic looking watch but I am also drawn to the red on the Tudor.

I started looking at 2nd hand Seamasters, the model numbers that Pierce Brosnan and Daniel Craig both wore, they seem to be going for about £1.8-2.5k

What would be the difference between one of them older models and a brand new one if I bought it new from an AD now apart from the price?

Where would you guys say my money is better being spent? Tudor or Omega?

This will be the first "expensive" watch I have bought, my previous most expensive was a £220 TW Steel.

Between the two you are deciding between, I would get the Omega since the B.B. will be nearly the same as the B.B. gmt you plan on getting later this year. With regard to old vs new SM, would say you should try them both on and decide which fits better.

is there a difference in say a 2220.80.00 and the current model? movements different or anything like that? I know they look slightly different.

obviously its a lot easier to get hold of a new one.

My BBR says hi! But if you're expecting the GMT already, I'd lean towards the Omega

Bronson wore reference 2531.50, which is a bit more toolish than the 2220.80. The 2531.50 would be a cool addition to your collection, I think. Prince William wears one, too.

I'm not so sure buying a watch is really what you want to do, though. It sounds like you really want the Tudor GMT, and September will be here before you know it. I say just wear your Rolex watches anywhere you like until your Tudor arrives.

I only have the one Rolex, its the 16203 which is more of a dress looking watch especially at 36mm for reference I'm 29, shaved head and both arms heavily tattooed haha so it probably stands out like a sore thumb on me.

Hence the desire for something a little more everyday.

I think you made a good choice. The GMT coming is too close to the BB. I really like Omega and the history is very strong but the prices are not. If you do some searching you may find a new watch from a discounter to be close to a pre-owned model. Never pay retail for any none LE Omega as they take a 40-50% hit in the used market. Good luck and lets see what you get when you pick it up.

Sat with a Seamaster on my wrist right now! went for a 41mm blue one brand new got a small 5%ish discount off it. The reason I have gone new even though it will take a hit is because I now get to make my own marks (damage) to it and not wear a watch who have other peoples damage on it.

With it being my first watch I personally have bought, I will keep it so won't be that interested in 2nd hand sales prices.

Seen the BB in the flesh today did look nice, I also spotted a TAG Pepsi GMT that I almost swayed to but remembered the Tudor BB GMT coming later in the year!

The Rolex will be going back to RSC in next month or so to have service carried out.

Excellent. Nice watch!

Mid-'90s Porsche? I sold mine a few years ago, and wish I could have that decision to do over again...
