Finally my custom piece!

And so finally after 15 months of waiting my custom creation has finally arrived. Based broadly on the Ali Bin Ali edition, this brings a platinum case, midnight blue subdials and tachymetre ring, hollowed lugs, red Chrono hands, and all brass parts from the movement replaced. Rose gold skeletonisation has been seen on other models. Full alcantara strap and redesigned deployant (smaller than the one on my 26388). Oh and a nice engraving! Enjoy! My profuse thanks to the AP team for the absolute pleasure of being able to design my own piece and for the flawless execution. AP hosted a wonderful lunch for me and some friends for the handover. Much alcohol was consumed and a really wonderful experience with AP all round.

Probably my final box ticking in my watch collecting journey.

Feedback positive or negative welcomed! And yes I did ask for a cermet bezel originally but not possible.

Congrats Roger, is this strap generally available? It would suit my platinum 44.

Congrats Roger that’s a cracking piece!

You know Ash was looking into a custom blue GP strap which sounded great and would be ideal for this!

posted at the same moment! Did you go any further with the custom blue GP strap Ash?

Thank you everyone. I originally asked for a blue version of the GP strap but they went one stage further and went full alcantara. And boy oh boy is it comfy!

Hi Roger,

Looks good.

But Would would you sacrifice the mini dial markers just to look at more of the escapement?

Isn't this too much form over function?

Pity because really had potential.

Congrats Roger! You have now your perfect platinum 44...

Such a honor to have manufacture like AP produce your piece unique... and great to have you here to share your experience...

Do you know what is AP problem with ceremet bezels? As I see all ceremets from Trulli, Schumi and Lebron still look great and new, so it is not problem like the one of forged carbon bezels on GP models...

And also, whats the future of these models if you accidentally crack the bezel? They will not provide you a new one?

A fair question - I actually quite like that element. I also had the screws on the sub dials colour matched which I thought looked better than the original silver. But of course it is all highly subjective!

I assume they have plenty of spares for existing Watches. I believe they have just raised the bar on their quality control and don’t wish to do more. A shame for sure as an amazing look.

Really amazing and a very special piece!

Ive often thought about adding a custom rotor for my 15202 to make it unique but you just took uniqueness to a totally different level

Congrats Roger

Yes, it's a shame... ceremet bezel with almost mirror looking effect, is something that was really unique looking in the world of black ceramic bezels...

Just looked that they marketed ceremet at 1450 vickers that is 100 vickers more than AP black ceramic at that moment, and white ceramic was hardest at 1850 vickers.

Big congrats Roger - shame about the ceremet bez availability, however does not detract from the overall look IMO.
Name on the back also - nice

Many congrats Roger, fine work! The news on the cermet bezel makes the Schumis more interesting, esp as I love how the screws are designed on it as well.

It is beautiful beyond description...may I ask why did you choose the 44 roo as platform for this customization? I feel the 41 RO with the fantastic bracelet makes good platform for customization and skeletonization (reference to 15407). Again it is a subjective opinion and doesn’t take away from the charm and beauty of this astonishing piece

Simply that I prefer Offshores (although my wrist is not huge I am 2 metres tall and prefer the size of Offshores), and although I do own and have owned RO bracelet watches I prefer strap Watches generally. The 44 ROO is my favourite AP design.
