Opinions on new incoming! Daytona love...

Hello all. I've been part of TRF for a long time now but don't post very often and went into a hibernation period until the watch collecting bug has bitten me again. Hoping to get into it again and contribute to this awesome forum.

As a long time watch collector I've primarily focused mainly on GMT watches as I do use the second/third timezone features quite regularly. I've also been intrigued by Chronographs as I like to be able to time seemingly unimportant things.

I've been quite happy with where my GMT collection is going but have been lacking "the one" Chronograph that sings to me. I've tried an Omega DSOTM and many others but they just don't seem to sit properly on my wrist and I always feel like something is "missing". That is until a few days back...

I was casually browsing the inventory of a reputable local second-hand jeweler that sometimes gets watches in on trade, through estate sales, etc. and from whom I generally don't buy watches as I don't know the full service history and as their inventory is usually full of older, over polished watches in marginal condition. The last time I walked in, however, something caught my eye...a Daytona. I thought I was seeing things and did a double take...

After having lusted for a Daytona for many years I just couldn't justify the grey market mark up on SS and full RG/YG was just too "bling" for my liking (as I find metallic subdials make the Daytona look more "sparkly" than it really is). Although I'm not usually a two-tone kinda guy (and it does remind me of the eighties) I just couldn't resist this one. It looked to be in good condition, a few small marks here and there, but was not over polished or mutilated (I think?), and had just been put in their inventory (after necessary police checks, etc). Had my local watchmaker take a look at it and he's also confirmed that although the back has previously been unscrewed (likely to verify authenticity) the movement has never been touched.

I love the contrast of the sunburst silver dial against the YG subdials and, although two-tone, the whole package just looks right and very subdued. I just can't seem to want to take this thing off! Lighter than my YG GMT II, thinner than my SS maxi case GMT II, and just fits perfectly!

Any other two-tone Daytona lovers? What do you think? Good buy? Good condition for a 10+ year old watch? Have I led myself down a dangerous path of watch collecting again?

I think that looks fantastic! I’m not usually a TT fan, but the silver dial lends itself to the stainless elements of the watch. It looks stellar!

Very nice! I owned the same TT Daytona model with the same dial for a couple of years and it is one of my favorites. I often regret selling it. It's a great combination of steel and gold with a dial that seems to make it all work even better.

Thanks for the comments! It was the dial that really sold me and seems to bring together the gold and steel elements nicely

Thanks guys! How does the condition look for a V-Serial (2008/2009)? To my untrained eye it looked to be in great condition (but my eyes are also getting older, which helps with the OCD)

Very nice Daytona congrats!!

I plan on adding a TT whenever Rolex adds a ceramic bezel (since I own polished SS now and would compliment well). I think it will be a pretty cool TT look all around. Wish Rolex would bring back the fully expanded dial options as well.

That's a gorgeous watch. That combination is amazing, don't think they offer that anymore. If there's a two tone Daytona, this would be the one I'd get.

For some reason, that dial just sings to me. An excellent example of a gorgeous TT Daytona. Wear it in the best of health!
