5960/1A or 5235G

G'day everyone..

Over dinner just now, my friend who is very into watches, who owns 5711/1A asked me a question which me being the rookie myself I told him don't know but I can help him ask in the forum.

He asked me which is better to better buy.. He told me 5235g being the very first PP regulator plus so hard to come by from AD make this watch that much more desirable n exclusive. He then told me the 5960/1A maybe a short run of 1 or 2 years n being SS hence should be a good investment...

His question really confusing for me as I never heard anything about 5960ss discontinue anytime soon.. I m waiting for the 5235g myself too. I only know I like the watch very much cos it is very special n I love that dial!

Now back to the question, I wonder what do you all think?

Thank you in advance n looking forward to your kind feedbacks! .. Jane

5235G much tougher watch to source and better of two IMHO. The 5960 1A easy to find and much more readily available. I was told by Patek management that they had no plan on 5960 1A being a short run and that is from management not an AD. So we shall see...The truth though is always get the one you desire the most and if you can't decide get both!

Don't know but prefer the 5960 dial, though can't say I love the bracelet much, would prefer in brushed steel I think… Between the 2 would take it, date windows are very cool...

I'm still waiting for my 5235. I love the 5960a/p/g, just not the bracelet.

I am biased but pics do this piece no justice. Was offered many 5960/1as at good discounts and it is a great watch but the 5235 does it for Me. I called over 40 ADs about the 5235 and not one was available and most were spoken for. Based on my calculations maybe 20 pieces hit the US so far

Both are in the same league: each to his own a first of a kind.
I think the 5960 is the more versatile, offering relatively a lot of "bang for the bucks" (day, date, month, chrono, power reserve, plus a bracelet that will last under wet, sweaty and dry conditions). The 5235 is the more special and to me the dial really has a bit more "life" to it the way it picks up and plays with the light. I just missed a 5235 by a hair and finally found the 5960 sitting a bit too high on my wrist.
I think one of the reasons there are momentarily more 5960s available is because the 5990 was launched in 2014 as well. I also think that with the expected initial popularity of the 5960 versus other models like perhaps the 5205, production numbers might have shifted a bit in favor of the 5960 in an attempt to not disappoint too many. However, if you look at amount of complications the 5960 surpasses the 5990 easily.

Of course its all speculation, but its just hard to say which watch is more preferable between the 5235 and the 5960. They are such different beasts. I already had a hard time deciding between the 5726 or the 5960 and finally found the 5960 the better watch, if only by a hair, but sitting a bit too high on my wrist. But if my choice were limited to the 5235 or the 5960 I would see myself wearing the 5960 a lot more and a lot easier.

Good luck!
