I agree. That's what I did with my Daytona. You can avoid more depreciation by buying one year old PM watches than you will experience in the next 20 years of ownership.* At least in the case of these examples.

* This is purely a theoretical concept for most TRFers.

You can ask anything you want... They don't arrest you for asking questions!

I asked for a discount and got 20% off a couple times. 0% off a couple times. Hit and miss.

Worldwide: No discount on SS, pending on the store you could get some discount for PM (the % depends on the turnover of the store and how desirable the PM model is).

I received a 15% discount, but no discount for cash. They preferred not to do cash, because of the extra paperwork for a cash purchase over 10k.

I mentioned it this way “last time I bought a watch here I was out the door for msrp. Is that still an option?” He replied, “I wish I could but I can’t do that today.” He wasn’t upset that I asked.

I don't mind. I have warranty cards printed to my name, I know they are real, I built more good will with my AD and I got a bunch of Rolex stuff thrown in like the cool leather carriers, a couple ties, a wallet and a nice cup of coffee while they were being sized ;)
ohhhh mah gerd. PT at sticker?! What a baller move! Congratz again tho.

For certain PT piece I see, AD do have to be somewhat competitive with the Greys for me to purchase. I'm not going to buy a platona at msrp. Nuts! Just like how I wouldn't pay MSRP for the plat AP ROO 44s. Tho now with this boutique only thing, I'm not sure how much I get can off.

The only time I have ever bought a watch at MSRP from an AD was at a casino. They had a NOS Tuxedo DJ that I just had to have, was available nowhere else new, and they gave no discounts. Other than that, I look for 8-10% off. Never had a problem getting it. Best I ever got was 25% on a Coke GMT ll in 2007!!! Then again, these days I'm not a fan of the SS sports models most WIS covet so getting a better price has been fairly easy.

Also, I'm never afraid to use my best negotiating tools... My feet! They always call to come back. Always.

Well first of all good evening, second of all thank you everyone for all the clarifications on the

acronyms i was behind. Thirdly, well i think i got the answer i was looking for, and that was

what i meant when i said i was trying to play with all the cards and not showing my interest

in that particular piece, although i may get no discount, it is still way better to buy a White

gold daytona without a discount or a Daydate platinum or white gold than buying a pearl

master with a discount, i think you gentlemans know what i mean right? Of course as i think

you all agree it will be way better having a discount on a white Gold daytona even if its a 3

per cent or 2 per cent and still be able to negotiate with that purchase a steel sport model at

the same moment, because we never know whats kept behind the stable door or if not

possible in a very close future purchase. Just like some of you wisely did, i think we all agree

on that? no?

I am pretty new to forums but not in watches, although a few years ago, things were

different. Nowadays got to learn with the current, thats why i think the best teachers are on

here, as long as youre a good student too.

I have bought a few years ago a Daydate platinum on the same AD wich i get on for many

years, i did have 20 per cent on that purchase, that was 2 years ago.

One watch i much desire is the Platinum Daytona, they did had one in the shop by the time i

got my Platinum Daydate, although they refuse the discount on that particular piece. I

confess i didnt take it very well. But it was all dealt with the normal and usual respect, under

no arrogance and there was no problem on both parts, my dad bought watches there, all my

uncles too even my grandad did so they know me and my family for a long time, but they

refused on that particular model.

Platinum Daytona, that is why for me its a watch that is going to seat whetever it is and

when God wants it, it will be mine. But under my terms!

I am a serious believer that the most expensive pieces have to come out with a discount, 50 k or over pieces. Not just Rolex as per other brands.

I think i am going to play with this particular model on the white gold Daytona, and see where it leads me, i wont ask for it, ill wait untill i see one, because at the

moment they dont have it there, but it will come, when it comes ill let it seat, see for how long it stays there and then i will show my interest. Because it has to be that

particular one, the Blue dial on the bracelet.

Thank you very much gentleman. A great weekend to all of you, wherever time zone and

place you are.

Best Regards

Francesco

I remember your thread on the Tuxedo DJ and the whole story about purchasing it. Great read!

As mentioned in the posts above, you'll not get a discount on the popular models. I never really ask for a discount. I just ask, what is the final price you can give me including tax? ( realize that is still kinda asking for a discount, but I just don't use the "d" word ). Maybe I am just lucky, but 90% of the time they will say they can do better on the price, and give me the discounted price including tax. Or, they will just say the best they can do is tax included.

I found that with Tudor watches, Zenith and my Rolex OP34's. Some, I had a previous relationship with the AD, and some it was my first purchase.

One of the ADs here in town, includes the tax in all the MSRP prices. So, here
Cheers,
Carl

Well said!! "What is the final price", good one!

Well thats a different way and a good way to put it, interesting way!

Another way to put it may be "What is the final price, for me?"

Good one, thanks alot Carl!
