Watch wonder for GF?
Hey team,
As a previous post of mine explained I bought the GF a DJ36 I sort of realized quickly she’s not a fan of setting the time and winding it up. She will wear the watch in the evenings sometimes and on weekends but it’s not a daily wear watch for her. Does a watch wonder make sense for her? I’ve read there is some downside to a watch winder wearing out the movement but is this even true? Can anyone suggest a simple watch wonder that would be good for her? Thank you in advance. |

As a good BF you could just wind and set it for her.

that's what I was thinking.
A winder won't put anymore wear on the movement than you would get from wearing it everyday. Personally I think winders are a waste of money unless you have something complicated like an annual calendar. Other options are just wear it and don't set it or sell it and buy yourself something. |

I’m in the same situation and I got a free winder with the purchase! Guess what! She doesn’t use it and I still end up winding the watch. Don’t waste your money!

Teach her how to wind it & set the time. From personal experience, I taught my wife (GF at the time) how to unscrew the crown, manually wind, "scroll" past midnight until the date changes & finally set the time. She enjoyed the learning experience. She appreciated me sharing one of my hobbies/fascinations with her. She now enjoys doing it herself. It'll pay off in the end. She'll be happy with her shiny thing & not feel like she's "wasting" your present. Or, conversely, if she doesn't like it, return it & get a Citizen EcoDrive for her.

Watch winders are very convenient, and I love mine. Not that I don't enjoy setting my watches, but having any of my watches ready to go in a pinch is a big plus.
Also, the nicer models are made with exotic wood, and make nice display pieces that double as a conversation starter. Last edited by WatchUdoing; 31 May 2019 at 01:01 PM.. Reason: Added a sentence |

My wife like her winder. She has arthritis and it helps her.
