Vintage 1972 GRAND SEIKO 5646-7010 HI-BEAT
Condition Complete with its rare, original GS buckle, this 5646-7010 is one of the more faithful examples of Taro Tanaka’s famous Grammar of Design, and all his trademark lines are still sharp and surfaces clear, with no dings or dents. The caseback gold medallion is in excellent condition and caseback text is still very well defined. The dial has kept its vivid whiteness unusually well (they tend to have long-since darkened or discoloured), with long matt-black indices and all three hands in great shape, with sharp printing and unblemished SEIKO and GS applied logos. Some light edge wear on the Hardlex crystal can be seen under magnification, which is common for this model. The original GS-signed crown operates smoothly for winding, setting the time, and the double-quickset day and date. The movement keeps excellent time on the wrist, with strong amplitude, and is clean and bright. Facts & Figures Production date: April 1972. Case: 36.5mm x 11mm. Lug width: 18mm. Lug to Lug: 41mm. Movt: Automatic Seiko 5646A, 25 jewels, hacking, double quickset day/date. Choice of English or Japanese days (black weekdays, blue Saturday, red Sunday for both). See here for details. BPH: 28,800.
