It was close to bring literally.

As I walked out of my AD wearing mine, a client spotted it and was not happy.

if they would actually care like so many always claim they could easily track down the grey sellers of this piece - it's a thousand pieces. should be so easy.

They do. For the Singapore red Aquanaut, Patek bought back used pieces randomly from the market at a premium, and blacklisted those sellers consequently. I'm sorry this happened, but it happened.

How do you know that happened? It is good if that happened because the pieces will go to some one who appreciate those and keep it for a long time

I did not witness the actual buy-back personally, but I also could not share how I knew that happened - sorry. I agree with you on those who appreciate this piece and will keep it.

So what does Patek do with the used Singapore Aquanaut they bought back? Refurbish and re-allocate or it goes into their vault? I think Patek would have also considered the time of ownership before it was being sold before blacklisting any client.

It's a known fact that Patek buys flipped hot items on the secondary market. They've been doing this for years.

They do this to find out which ADs and which customers are flipping.

Quoting Thierry Stern: “Maybe sometimes the retailers are part of it,” he said, but he does not lay all the blame at their doors. “We buy back a lot of watches every year from the secondary market, because we want to know why a watch is for sale.”

However, he said that if the company learned that a retailer is selling watches to customers involved in such resales, and the retailer did not prevent such activity, the company would end the retailer’s Patek account. “If I have the proof, then I act,” Mr. Stern said.

Indeed!

Thanks for digging that up. It's evidence.

Many of us have known this for years, but I was glad to see when Mr. Stern acknowledged it in public.

I wish it worked as a deterrent, though. :(

Still hasn't had an impact even though I've been griping about this nonsense for over half a decade now.

I think secondary market prices will settle around $45K.

Any other thoughts?

The 5522A was sold for 22k.... now around 50k
but against the 6007 the 5522 is

on the other side.. why you are talking about the price... you love the watch or the price ?
