New member...36 date just too small
No not another is the 36 mm date just too small!
Finally bought my first Rolex, 2018 36 mm date just, champagne dial with jubilee hidden clasp. Have been wanting one for a few years and once I’d seen the 41mm rhodium dial heart and mind was set. Spent the best part of 2 hours trying on different dials, Batton blue, black, rhodium but I just wasn’t wow’d when I had them on, the proportions of the face just didn’t seem right to me (6.75 wrist so not massive but hardly small) so tried on the 36mm, wasn’t 100% at first but after seeing it in the mirror it was perfect. Opted for Batton blue but when I tried it on it just didn’t complement me at all compared to the two tone so went with what looked better on. Weirdly enough if there was a blue or rhodium next to mine I would pick them first! |

Would like to see pics!
IMO the DJ41 is too big unless someone has large wrists and hands. The dial just looks huge. The DJ36 is probably a bit small for me but I think it’s perfect as a dress watch and probably perfectly proportioned for you. I have 7” wrists and large hands. Congrats it’s a beautiful watch. |

Yeh, I mean it wasn’t stupidly big but the face proportions just didn’t seem right. GMT 2 would have been a nice compromise but was a 12 month min waiting list. Will get some pics up! |

Congratulations on the DJ and welcome to the Forum!!! I've no longer got any 36mm watches (down from three). They are great!!! I had an OP, DJ, and DD all of which I traded in recently. Happy with 40mm which is as large as I'll go with a 6.5in wrist.

I contemplated the same question when getting my DJ41. My wrist was on the cusp in terms of size. Could go either way. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

36-42, are all good for me. The right size for both DJ & DD IMO is 36.

Don’t get me wrong I love it and was completely drawn to it from the start, I just feel the blue and grey are a bit more subtle and more versatile and something I would wear to work but they just didn’t look as good on as the champagne did, so as I’m wearing it I choose what looked best on the wrist rather than in the window.

Exactly why you need to try it on. I wasn’t keen on the white diall but that looks great. The salesmen had a white batton 36mm on which looked great as well.

36mm is not "just too small" many folks just do not prefer it. This was the standard size Rolex for men for decades no matter how big their wrists were. Watches went huge, 40mm and larger and people have grown accustom to a large head presence on the wrist. Nothing right or wrong. Its all a matter of taste and not absolutes.

Agreed. A 40mm head overwhelms the bracelet unless you have really large wrists. Otherwise all you see is the watch itself. The beauty of these things is the drape of the bracelet against the watch. This is especially true on the President bracelet. The more bracelet you see the richer the look becomes.

I prefer my 40mm sport models but I can't argue with the comfort of my DJ 36. On the oyster bracelet, it feels like it was custom made for my wrist.
Congrats on your purchase and we need pics!
