5196g vs 5196p vs 5296g

Deciding between these 3. Things I like the most about each:

5196g- simplicity, price, stupidly beautiful
5196p- Breguet numerals, bit more special, weight
5296g (non-sector)- opaline dial, wears slightly larger

Initially was hooked for 5196, but the 5296 non sector would be my choice, because of the seconds hand and you can see the movement when you take it off.

5296 non sector is classic PP and a great one watch only collection.

Well as it turns out I've gone with the one with the lowest number of votes! New straight from Geneve.

5196g is absolutely stunning. I actually like it equally to the 5196p, which I owned in the past. The P is a bit more special, true, but the G is literally perfect. I especially like the contrast in hands, dauphine/sword hands for hours and minutes and leaf hand for seconds. I also like how the 5196 case sides are brushed vs. polished for the 5296. My only hesitation is whether down the road the size will get to me and I look to upsize. For now I'm good but only time will tell!

Congrats, it's an evergreen watch, great choice. It also fits you perfect, shouldn't be worried about the size.

To me the 5196G is literally THE perfect watch (in photos), and then I saw one in person and it left me cold...I can't explain it. It very well could have been the florescent lighting in the store, not sure... but I was disappointed.

Just last week I was in Vegas for CES and had some downtime and I spent a day walking to several boutiques. My final (best for last) was a new Patek boutique at Aria. They didn't have the 5196G but had the yellow and rose gold versions...I tried them both and they both seemed to be better to me than what I remember of the white gold. Incidentally, I thought the yellow gold (my last choice of the three, initially) looked the best on me.

I'd love to re-evaluate the white gold, perhaps in different lighting...but as I saw it, the contrast was very flat in person compared to all the beauty pics I have seen online.

I also tried the Saxonia thin in WG earlier and I loved it, but I really want a seconds hand...it felt great on the wrist, and that movement is so pretty.

I completely agree. The 5196G looks great on pics. But when I tried on a 5196G and a 5196R years ago at the AD they left me cold. Somehow I did not like the flatness compared to the 37 mm size on my smallish wrists. No "want to have" feeling anymore.

Instead I got a mint 3998P I fell in love with instantly when running across it. Obviously small at 34 mm and many people wouldn't like the date, but for me the perfect under the radar dress watch I still like a lot.

My local dealer got a used 5296g (non sector) for sale at $16.5k.
2014 watch, last serviced in 2017. Condition is great.
Catch is no paper except for service paper from Patek which gives a 2 year warranty and no full box, just a travel pouch.

Is it a good price?

Not bad. Dealer probably give you $15k if you tried to sell so minimal loss exposure.

You are saying the average price for this watch without paper & box is in the region of $15k?

The dealer only gave me a buy back guarantee of 20% less the price he is selling me within 2 years or 15% if I trade this in for something else.

He has been saying any dealer should give you $15k I think.

Anyway, $16.5k w the 80% back stop seems good as you have a fair chance to get more than those $13.2k if you don't like it in the end.

Personally I want box & papers for watches from the 2000s as a matter of principle, so I would not get it no matter how good this deal...

Ah... I see now...

I prefer box and papers too, but I don’t see many of this model for sale in a Long time now... probably can get the certificate of archive. I know to some people it’s still not the same. Else I have to be patient and wait for another watch.
