Explorer40 vs Sub41D
Dear friends, hello!
What do You think about the only one watch for everyday with suits (official/casual)? I really like all Rolex watches. I understand that an ideal can be a Datejust, but I don't like the shiny links of the bracelets at all. I'm a fan of matte bracelets (or oysterflex) and non-flashy watches. As a result, I choose between two models. Which one will be more comfortable for daily use "without removing it from wrist"? Thanks for Your suggestions! |

In would go for an OP41 for this purpose, the smooth bezel is better balanced than on the Explorer 40.
The SubD 41 is a bit big for suit (clasp is quite big) |

If you want a non-flashy watch, Explorer shouts “Rolex!” much less than a Sub, so that’s what I’d pick for you. Going further, I’d go 36 over 40.

It’s not about shouting Rolex, I mean overall look of the watch. I wouldn't want too shiny watch on my hand. 36mm too small on my 19cm wrist, but I absolutely agree- two tone looks really balanced and perfect.

My ideal Rolex, to be honest, YM42 in WG or Ti, but both variants are too expensive for me. The Ti version is very rare, can buy it only for 40$, that’s 4 times retail price. That’s why I want to stick with either Sub41 date or Exp40.

The EXP is lower key than the Submariner as Cru said.
The shiny ceramic bezel and WG serrated bezel make it stand out a lot more IMO. |

I prefer the Submariner-C to all watches. It is perfect in so many ways and still is somewhat low-key for a Rolex. I prefer the no date version for the perfect balance of the dial. The Glide Lock clasp makes wear perfect every time. The Explorer 40 is no slouch but between is and the Submariner I will always go Submariner.

I don’t know, man.
Didn’t grow up wanting an explorer. I did grow up wanting a submariner. Some things have changed and I have slightly realigned my interests. Maybe swapped a SD for a Sub, but they’re similar. Always a Sub. I have a 40 Sub and it fits with everything, even long sleeves. I’m sure you can make it work. |

Both are great for everyday.
Sub is a little shinier with the ceramic/size/shape. Glide lock is great if a little chunky. Explorer (I’m going off the 39 as not worn the 40) is probably the most subdued Rolex, has a great shape and smaller clasp, but of course only easy link. Cant go wrong with either. I think as a one watch the Sub just pips it, but as a pair with literally anything else I’d go with the Explorer. I’ve gone day and night for months with only taking it off to flip the easy link as it is so comfortable. |

I got a DJ specifically for this reason. Oyster bracelet with the smooth bezel.
